I never said, nor thought, that Zimmer was realistic. But a lot of people wanted Zimmer to become the head coach when he left here, and even more would like it to happen now, seeing the success he's had at Minnesota. I'm just saying that the stance the Bengals should have never consider him just because Marvin would recommend him is crazy. Yes, you still have to do your vetting with whomever he might recommend. So if it's the water boy, you probably don't put much stock in it. But, if it's someone else who has their own credentials, then you should at least consider it.

Bengals need a disciplinarian of sorts. Someone who will hold guys accountable and not put up with the garbage that has plagued the franchise during the Marvin era. I think he's going to be a really good HC, and soon, but McDaniels is not that guy.

 

I'd go after Mike Vrabel, Todd Haley, or Jim Harbaugh.

Out of the guys you mentioned. No thanks on Vrabel, or Haley. However I would love to have Jim Harbaugh. However I just don't see that as being realistic. I don't think he would leave Michigan to be the Bengals coach. I think if he comes back it would be to the Colts because of Luck. Or a big job like Dallas or the Giants. However I definitely wish the Bengals would at least attempt it.

I've heard or read McDaniels name mentioned more than once. I've also heard Chris Peterson's name thrown around. Do you think a coach like McDaniels is going to be able to come in right away and fix the offensive problems without upgrades to the offensive line and receiving corp? How will a new coach be able to handle problem players like Burfict and Jones?

 

I do because the Bengals addressed a lot of defense this year and got younger. Added a talented rb. So a new coach could focus on nothing but lineman in the draft and free agency. I think Adam Jones would be gone with a new coach. Burfict will still be here but probably on better behave like he was his first 2 years in the league with a new coach.

He is under contract so we would have to give up draft picks to get him. He has built Minnesota into his identity and depending on how his qb play continues to be. He has a team capable of a super bowl run right now. Really zero chance imo he would want to come here. Plus zero chance Minnesota would trade a coach who has built them into a super bowl contending team.

I been saying Josh Mcdaniels for the last few years now. I believe he would utilize the talent on offense better than any oc we have had. I like that he does have head coaching experience. So I think he would have learned from some previous mistakes.

 

With that said with the Giants Job being open, the Colts, and who knows possibly Dallas. It may be hard to get him now. Even though I think the Bengals would be an attractive team for him because he could win right away. It would all depend on Mike Brown and Mcdaniels liking what he hears or not in that conversation.

Harbaugh is making $7m a year at Michigan and Marvin $4.5m with the Bengals. Do you really think that Mike Brown would offer Jim more than he is making at Michigan? Belichick is making $7.5m.
