Great ballgame!!! Go CARDS....

Mayfield played a little tight early in this one and I thought we may be in for a long night, but, after they made a few plays and came back and tied it up, it just looked like they got there confidence and swagger back and really outplayed the Centurions from about the half way point of the 2nd quarter on.. What really surprised me in this game was despite being outsized in the trenches, the Cards OL and DL seemed to get stronger as the game wore on and they really wore down CALs line, especially in the 4th quarter.

Lots of momentum swings in this one. CAL fumbles on their first play, MF players indicate a recovery, and the refs still give CAL the ball. Next play their RB takes it to the house. At that point I thought it would be extremely difficult for MF to recover. But they did a great job running the ball, and their D played great, with the exception of losing containment on the CAL QB for a few first downs. Maybe someone could enlighten me, but #3 was supposedly the best player on the field, why did he get so few touches??? I counted two receptions, and some decent special team returns, but no carries. If I have a player that talented, I'm finding more ways to get him the ball. He actually didn't appear to be well conditioned. There were quite a few plays where he looked gassed. MF showed a lot of guts tonight. Let's hope they can keep it rolling.

Congrats to CAL on a great season! Congrats to The Cardinals on a fantastic game. As some has already mentioned, War Memorial was EPIC tonight!!! Place was rocking. A great crowd too.

 

Nothing like a good ole hard hitting game. Both teams were laying the wood. Saw several good hits tonight.

 

No doubt this game was won up front. Cardinals D line played lights out. Our coaches once again put together a great game plan. Hung over 200 yds rushing on this CAL defense. Wow!

 

I too was one to hold their breath everytime Wright received a punt or kickoff. But we kept him in check all night. He maybe had 2 maybe 3 touches all night on the offenseive side of the ball. Was surprised to see them not go to him on offense. I scratch my head when the best player on the field hardly touches the ball. But, I’ll take it. Credit our D backs for keeping him in check also!

 

A great hard fought game is what took place tonight! The Big Red Machine keeps rolling! On to the next one!

Statatition told me wright had 1 catch. Coach Joe had a game plan and it worked. I agree it is crazy they didn't get the ball in wrights hands more, wildcat, sweeps, SOMETHING. Awesome athlete. This game was won in the trenches and Mayfield won that battle, that was a really, really good team we just beat, congrats to CAL, great hard hitting team, played tuff, coached well, you have a fine team, lost with class to.

I was impressed with CAL in every aspect. Hustled in everything they did. Breaking the huddle and game play. The #57 kid made tackles all over the field. There is a reason this team defending champs. Great coaching!!! Great game plane MHS coaches. Got one more. Go big red!!!

Two really good teams. Both have good size lines that are mobile, both have good skill players and both have good coaching. I feel the better team won and was about how I saw the game playing out.

I knew this was going to be a tough one for CAL on the road. Mayfield is almost unbeatable at home.

He had 1 reception, and outside punts and kickoffs i dont think he touched the ball. You have to hold your breath each time he does, he's amazing, but Mayfield did an awesome job keeping him in check.

Congrats Mayfield!!!!!! Bet this game was so exciting!!! I followed the update and seemed like 2 evenly matched teams filing it out!

I'm on record as saying he's the best player in 2A and I stand by it. However, I don't think the CAL staff does near enough to get him touches. He's dynamite with every touch but they seem to treat him like just another receiver. He needs wildcat snaps, sweeps, handoffs, etc. I'm sure Mayfield had a good game plan for stopping him, but Wright is too good of a player to only touch it once all evening.
