Covington Catholic 43 South Warren 7

Featured Replies

If I'm hearing correctly, Cov Cath just ended a 36 game win streak at home for the South Warren Spartans.

That is correct. They've only lost four games at home in program history. Last time they fell at home was in 2012 to Monroe County. Brandon Smith had never lost at home as head coach. But, to be fair, most expected that this would occur.

KHSAA had him down as the 2013 coach as well. Did he take over late in the season maybe?

Unless we see rain/inclement weather of biblical proportions next week the 1A, 5A, and 6A titles are foregone conclusions.

No, that's some sort of an error on their side. Mark Nelson helmed them the first three seasons.

2013 was his first season there.

KHSAA has it wrong

2011 to 2013 Mark Nelson head coach

2010 only played JV Schedule

2011 south goes 4-9 in first season lost first round to FT Campbell

2012 South goes 9-4 lost to Monroe in regional final.

2013 south went 11-2 lost to Paducah In The regional finals. Nelson resigned and retired in Jan of 2014. I know this because my son graduated in 2014 and Mark Nelson was his head coach.

Smith took over in 2014 and goes 13-1 losing to Louisville Central in Semi”s

2015 won state in 4a over Johnson Central. 15-0

2016 lost toFranklin Simpson in Region.

9-4 record

Lost this year in semi to a great and welll dispirited Cov Cath team. This year 11-3 record.

Also on a side note this was Souths first loss at home since Monroe County beat them at home in 2012.

Covington Catholic is All as advertised they are well disciplined, well coach and don’t make many mistakes. South hurt themselves some but in the end did not have the athletes to keep up with Covington Catholic.

Wish Covington Catholic the best of luck next week and a safe trip back home.

Great half time adjustments by CCH.

Definitely. The ability of this coaching staff to adjust their game plan on the fly has been absolutely phenomenal this season.

Georgetown missed him as the OC. It was kinda fun watching CC warm up and do a lot of pregame things like Cronin and the Georgetown Tigers do.

He has CC Playing and doing a lot of good things. Honestly one of the most athletic teams I’ve seen play.

Hope another NKY coach was taking notes.

Great job of coaching and great execution by the players.

Can you bring home the trophy with another running clock? I think so!!

Thought it would be closer...this must be one of those Cov Cath teams like we last saw in 2006 and before that in the mid 90's. Impressive!

Great game by the Colonels and a great atmosphere. South Warren had a lot of talent and it was easy to see why they beat Bowling Green. One more boys.
