SO, extortion is cool. What the heck is wrong with people.

To me this isn't a bitcoin problem, it's just simple extortion. Obviously William would be a fool to pay it.

Similar to the phone call scams with money gram payments.

I would call the police and do nothing else.

I was sent Monopoly money to one of those phone scammers......... I'd love to have been a fly on the wall when they opened the envelope.

I enjoy wasting their time when they call.

Of course it is a form of extortion but when you can't trace (or tax) the money it creates many issues and makes this type of crime much more enticing.

In a lot of instances bitcoin actually can be traced depending on how the wallet is setup. My BTC wallet for instance is linked directly to my bank account via the routing number and checking account number for faster transactions. I get what you're saying but most people don't have BTC wallets because they're trying to hide anything, myself included. I'll be reporting interest earned from BTC on my tax return as well, because it's a matter of time before the IRS starts requesting that info from exchanges like coinbase and I want no part of having to deal with the IRS for tax evasion years down the road.

I really believe most people that own BTC are just using it for investment purposes, rather than buying items or criminal activities. Someone who is a criminal is a criminal, regardless of what they ask for payment.

The government will figure out a way for mass adoption that can be taxed and traced. You will never be able to stop the rogue criminals looking for the next scam.

I’m ignorant on BitCoin and to lazy too look up what it actually is, yes I’ve heard of it. What if John Doe really has some things to hide and sends the money? What if he calls the bluff? This is very interesting indeed

Or, since Bitcoin can't be traced, what if someone rich wants you dead?

Same as my computer being hacked. They wanted $250 within 24 hours to release my files or $500 iif I didn’t pay within that time frame.

Sounds like a great story. Did they request Bitcoin Ransom? How did it all turn out? What do you suggest us minions do to protect ourselves?

Yes the ransom money was to be sent in bitcoin. Even though I was born at night, luckily it was not last night. I knew it was a scam and I’d never get my files back after wasting the money. Luckily it was a work computer and our IT team recovered most of the files. A few were still corrupted, but not too terrible.

I love it!
