Wow. I guess Scott County is all powerful. Three Kenton county schools in 3 regions, but they move wood ford County out of region to keep Scott county in the same district. 8th region schools continue to drive through Frankfort to play other regional teams. Crazy.

 

Another placement that is crazy is they have North and South Laurel schools in different districts in the 13th but they’re both located in the same city of London. That’s certainly a head scratcher.

They need to realign the 10th Region very bad. Scott and Campbell County have no business being in the same region as Montgomery Co and GRC.

 

Personally I think the 10th should be: Mason, Campbell, Pendleton, Bracken, Lewis, Fleming, Nicholas, Robertson, Harrison, and Bourbon Counties with all of the smaller schools in those counties included. It’s insane to have Region schools separated by a 2 hour drive. Make it simple and make it by geographic location.

It’s hard to get around long distances in most regions, though. It’s 140 miles from Stanton, Powell County to Whitesburg, Letcher County in the 14th.

And I don’t know the exact mileage but was told that in the 13th the driving time from Harlan County to McKee in Jackson County was a 2 1/2 hours.

I agree with you , it is hard to get around from some schools having to travel far. I think most of us know this.

This is it in a nutshell.

Does anyone else find it "convenient" that the Chair of the Board of Control is also the Superintendent of Woodford County Schools? Or am I just the only one who will point that out? Listen, I understand its hard to move 3 schools from one region to another and all that. I'm not even saying the Frankfort schools should be in the 8th, but its absurd that Woodford is going to the 8th region. Woodford County borders 1 county that's in the 8th region, Anderson. Franklin County borders Owen, Shelby, Anderson, and Henry County. Think about that for just a second. There is no easy fix to this situation. Personally I think they should've just moved Great Crossing to the 41st and then the 11th Region would have three 5 team districts and it be no issue. I know the Scott County superintendent requested that Great Crossings and Scott County be placed in the same district. I guess we cant tell people no these days haha. Or how about this, move both Scott County schools to the 41st, move Woodford to the 43rd, and then move Tates Creek to the 42nd. Many other ways this all could've been fixed, but its all about politics and if you don't realize that then youre just missing the point.

Woodford moving to the 8th region is beyond laughable. KHSAA once again don't follow their own logic when doing alignment.

I just think it strange that two schools located in the same small city are in different districts. I realize the difficulty in alignment but schools in the same town shouldn’t be a problem to fit into the same district.

Im sure its about the money. But Laurel isnt only place like that.

My issue wasn't the move itself as much as the khsaa accommodated Scott county's request. The khsaa typically doesn't care about most schools requests. I have been to the khsaa office over appeals cases. There is a lot of back scratching that goes on there. Woodford and Scott made out pretty good in this deal. Frankfort got screwed.

Agreed on the silliness of it. Scott and Simon Kenton are a few miles apart, and they go between 8th and 10th region— the 9th is farther north!
