Explanation on Highlands-South Oldham story

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I am the one who wrote the story quoting Highlands Head Coach Brian Weinrich's thoughts on facing South Oldham when the Dragons were the only team in the top five KHSAA playoffs to receive a bye in the first round.

I first want to say that I feel I did not clarify some things well in the story. South Oldham fans. I again want to reiterate that Brian is not mad at Coach Reed or anyone at South Oldham. I told Coach Reed that in an email.

What I failed to explain is a number of teams were not happy with the situation, not just Highlands. Commissioner Tackett addressed that when I saw him the next day at the state cross country meet.

I also want to clarify that Oldham County and Highlands made a mutual agreement not to trade films from the game last week with South Oldham.

Brian Weinrich has done everything to help me this season. That includes talking to me after two losses by more than 50 points. The same can be said for Offensive Coordinator Zach Deaton. I hate that things were taken the way they were. I apologize to Highlands fans and anyone that took it that way. If you have any questions about this, feel free to PM me.

May there be a good game tonight and let's move past this.

From what I read on BGP, I don't think anyone thought Coach Weinrich was mad at South Oldham. The overwhelming opinion was that it was a petty and weak response, especially from a program like Highlands. Your clarification is appreciated, but I don't read anything in it that changes that sentiment at all.

What am I missing?

Thanks for clearing up the notion that coach Weinrich did NOT refuse to exchange film with South Oldham. That thread got closed yesterday before the real story came out. I guess no one has to cry a river since the truth has come out.

Exactly where do you see that in what was posted? I'm with Watusi, doesn't change a thing.

it was a mutual agreement.

Would they only not trade the Oldham County game or all of them? We've always found ways to trade with other teams to get the films that we need if the other team is not willing.

Why would they make that agreement?

Meh...

To me it still makes me think that Weinrich is that guy who eats 80% of his steak at a nice restaurant then decides to call the server over and complain that it was overcooked to get it for free.

South Oldham did not agree to anything. Just because Highlands and Oldham Co. may have made an agreement to not give a film does not make it the right decision. And based on the other thread I am not sure Oldham made any agreement anyway. Bottom line is BW refused to give a film. Up to each person to decide if they agree or disagree.

I told everyone yesterday in the thread that there was a mutual agreement. SO is only upset they didn’t get the tape because it’s the only film of Cramer really playing quarterback...

Well hopefully they were there scouting the old fashioned way and not endulging in boxes of Krispy Kreme donuts.

Highlands had film on South Oldham for some time and were working on things for them during the week leading up to the Oldham County game. Much like they did this week preparing some for the Blue Colonels. Honestly have no problem with that as long as it is not taking away from your preparation for South Oldham and it obviously did not hurt at all last week.

What teams, other than Oldham and Highlands, were upset that South Oldham had a bye?

I told everyone yesterday in the thread that there was a mutual agreement. SO is only upset they didn’t get the tape because it’s the only film of Cramer really playing quarterback...

Why do people insist on bringing up a mutual agreement? South Oldham was not involved in any mutual agreement. How is that hard to understand? Just because someone said Highlands and Oldham Co. had an agreement not to give film to South Oldham does not mean it is ok. It seems we have a reading comprehension issue in this subject.

it was a mutual agreement.

The mutual agreement was between Highlands and Oldham County, NOT with South Oldham, according to the OP.

So the Highlands coach and the Oldham County coach agreed that they would not give film of their game to South Oldham.

That means Highlands DID refuse to share film with South Oldham for their upcoming game. This does not change the facts in any way. Highlands refused to exchange tape of a game that was probably requested by the South Oldham coach.

It is what it is.

And there have always been film controversies throughout the years including some at Highlands (NCC film to Danville for our historians), but at the end of the day BW made a decision and openly spoke about it to a reporter (PsalmG). Makes for some reading on BGP for all of us leading up to playoff kickoff time!!!!
