You could see a Colonel vs Colonel semifinal. You basically only need to win 2 games to get there as your JV can likely beat Barren County.

That's a pretty tough 2 games whoever it ends up being though. Several teams in top ten and just outside of top 10. Christian Co., South Warren, Graves Co., Apollo, Bowling Green. Oh and don't forget that lowly ole 4 seed Owensboro (don't care what their record is they have talent to compete). Pretty solid region I'd say.

There is no question that the region 1 and 2 are full of tough teams. I am glad, as a coach we are not on that side of the bracket for sure. I would love to watch some of thise matchups as well

Being someone who’s never seen any of the northern Kentucky football teams play. I find it hard for me to judge Covington Catholic but with all of the talk of how they are the greatest team to ever grace the football field what makes them so special compared to a team like Saint X, Male, or BG. What kind of speed, strength, size, and coaching do they have compared to teams like these?

Where are you hearing this at? Most CovCath people are expecting a dogfight in the semifinals. Of course the game against the South Oldham/Highlands winner is expected to be a tough one as well.

I don't know that anyone has ever asserted that Cov Cath is the greatest team to grace *any* field, but I've been following them for 30 years and I would say (even with some contesting from numerous Cov Cath fans) that this IS the best Cov Cath team I've ever seen play. They have never played Male, they're 1-7 against St. Xavier, 0-3 against Trinity, and 2-0 against Bowling Green. I think that somewhat speaks for itself as to how they add up against those teams.

 

For what it's worth, I would also say that Bowling Green would have likely handled Cov Cath the last several seasons had they played, and as for Male, St. X and Trinity...well...they're 6A schools that are all at least twice the size of Cov Cath. Those schools SHOULD beat Cov Cath, and in a year where both teams are firing on all cylinders, I would assume they would. Nothing against the Colonels, that's just how it goes.

 

All that said, I think Cov Cath is particularly good this year, and are the 5A favorite to win the championship. I really hope to get to watch a great game between the Purples and the Colonels in the semifinals.

Sometimes I worry if it may or may not be SO much that it contributes to inflating the heads of a certain group of football players in Park Hills that I like. Frankly, I wish we could see that much attention paid to ALL the teams around the state. I think it would be great for high school football in Kentucky.

 

For what it's worth I'm cautiously optimistic in my expectation that Cov Cath wins 5A. I definitely know that they're capable...their passing game is impeccable, their run game is well above average, their defense (which was one of the bigger question marks going into the season) has proven to be great - they've actually score points for the team in MOST games this season if I'm not mistaken.

 

The Colonels' biggest issue is penalties. They can get in their own way at times. They have an offensive line that includes zero seniors, and the O-line has probably tallied the most penalties for the team this season (I haven't verified that, but I *think* that is the case). Anyway, they need to cut out the penalties now that they're getting into the big-time competition of the playoffs. If they can put out 100% for four quarters in each of the next 5 weeks, I don't think there's much stopping them from the 5A title in 2017.

Great post. BGHS has been on an incredible run ( I think we are 92-5 since 2011). We knew going into the season that we were going to take some losses, especially early on. We simply had too many shoes to fill that graduated last year. Big shoes, including Mr Football.

 

Purples fans has been watching Cov Cath throughout the season. We have some work to do in order to even get to week 4. I think Cov Cath will have maybe one 2nd half game (maybe) until week 4. BGHS would love the chance to play you guys. We know that it will be a tall order but it would be great to see.

 

The winner of week 4 of whoever plays Cov Cath will be your 5A state champion.

I've been watching NKy high school football since the late 70's and this is the best CCH team I have seen play.. If they don't win state I would be highly surprised.. This team is COACHED extremely well and have all of the parts..

I would say this is the best cov cath team ever and in the top 5 best northern Kentucky teams all time. But they have to finish go on and win state.
