Mike Leach is fantastic. I love listening to his perspective on things.

I may be in the minority, but I love the way college football is set up. I love the bowl games, I love the playoff. College Football has one thing that no other American sport has: every single game matters. You can't have a bad game. At the end of the year last year USC and Penn State were playing better than Clemson and Alabama IMO. But they didn't deserve to play for a championship because they had bad early season losses. Your team literally lives and dies with every game. I love it. It's completely different than college basketball. In College basketball the only thing that matters is getting to the tournament. Just be average during the regular season, that's it. There isn't any intrigue, their isn't the same passion. I get what Leach is trying to get at here, I just don't want to see it happen. I love college football, Saturday's in the fall are what I live for. I love that last weekend watching Oklahoma/ Texas that Oklahoma's season is on the line. Essentially finished if they lose. Every game is a playoff game and if you're a power 5 school it's essentially a 129 team, double elimination playoff starting week 1.

I don't know.....Clemson had a game this weekend that won't matter if they win out. But I do like the format, just wish it was 8 teams instead of 4.

Actually, 2+ minutes.

That's why I said double elimination.

Here's what I don't like, and ultimately it's still the same problem that they had pre-BCS, BCS and even now...and that is the fact that it ultimately comes down to what somebody thinks about a team, as to whether or not they play for the title. I hate the polls and their roll in it. Come on, who's really able to watch each and every single game and properly evaluate what team is better than another? Settle the dang thing on the field.

How would you settle it on the field exactly?

I've posted this before, but will try to give you the short version. All 10 FBS conferences send their champion. You round it out with 6 at-large berths. (This helps offset teams being "penalized" by being in a stronger conference, or by when they play certain opponents). The 16 teams are then seeded, with the first two rounds being played on the higher-seed's campus. Semi-Finals and NC played on neutral sites in rotating bowls.

Conference games remain highly important due to the automatic berth. And tougher out-of-conference matchups would be encouraged as they would be critical to determining seeding (and home field advantage in first two rounds).

Yes, there's still some human factor that will go into it, but not until the end of the regular season.

Can't get past the first sentence. I don't need to see Alabama/ Ohio State/ Clemson/ etc. play the winner of the MAC. That's a waste of everyone's time. I think if you would have went with an 8 team playoff with 5 auto births for conference champs, 1 birth to the best group of 5 school, and two at larges. Then have a committee seed after the 8 schools are determined. 16 is way too many. Personally I like the 4 team playoff, and my stance on it has changed over the years, but I would be fine with an 8 team playoff. But absolutely no more than that though.

While I understand what you're saying, here's the reasoning...we've had teams like Boise State and TCU who've gone undefeated in the past, yet weren't considered because they were (at the time) in the WAC or Mountain West Conferences. The argument was "oh a 1 or even 2 loss SEC team is better than an undefeated WAC team". Maybe it was true, maybe it wasn't. But the SEC teams sure as heck weren't going to schedule them during the regular season, either.

So, by taking the champion from every conference, you get around any scheduling issues. And heck, I'd love to see some of these good underdogs empty the playbook going up against some of the "traditional" powerhouses. (think Boise State vs. Oklahoma) Let's see what UCF could do against So. Cal, or what Marshall could come up with against Oklahoma.

I get what you're saying and it is a good story when one of them knocks off a power 5 school but that's 1 or 2 teams every couple of years who are capable of competing with the big dogs. That school will stand out so put them in the 8, but I don't need 5 games where they are probably going to get their butt handed to them. Also the coaches and athletic directors would never agree to it so it's a mute point.

I’m not going to complain because I like the 4 team playoff a lot more than the BCS, but I would like to see it be expanded to 8. I think Georgia is the 2nd best team in the country this year behind Alabama but chances are they both won’t make it to the playoffs like they deserve if they both make it to the SEC Championship game undefeated.

This is what we clamored for after Bama/LSU round 2 in 2011. The 4 team playoff is probably where it should be at this point. Extending the playoffs would take away Conf championship games (mo money, mo money, mo money) and surely the SEC and Big 10 ain't having that. Or you would have to play more games and most coaches are already saying that the 15 games now are too much on the college kid body. I don't see it happening in the near future.
