While I don't disagree that sexual abuse scandals are part of the reason (likely a large part) for the decline in attendance at mass, I think another reason (possibly equally as large) is the fact that this younger generation wants everything tailored to their liking. They want to be entertained, even in church.

This whole thing seems a bit silly to me.

 

If it's about having outdoor activities and badges available, why not just make changes to the Girl Scouts program and add these things?

 

If it's about the "prestige" surrounding the Eagle Scout distinction, why not add it to the Girl Scouts program as well?

So, the BSA's decision seems to be the response to research they did on their own. After reading some of the reasons parents responded to surveys, I can see why some may choose this route. I'm still not sure how I feel about it.

I'm in the party that agrees they should stay separate unless under extreem circumstances. You have 20 boyscouts and 2 girlscouts in a community, ok you don't exclude the girls and you try to make arrangements for the time being but nothing more.

 

If folks thought there was a problem before with adult males being alone with young boy scouts..... Yea, can't see this going bad at all......

So it was an inconvenience for parents to have to take kids to different group meetings? That's really a reason they gave in that article? Please. If it's something you feel strongly about and is important to you and your kids, you find the time.

I find some if the arguments interesting related to NOT allowing girls in the BSA. Some of the people making the arguments to keep girls out are people who think same sex private schools don't offer students an opportunity to develop normally, socially.

I think they just need to start over as a whole, dissolve both groups and start a new one that is coed, new name, new ideas, new umbrella.
