JC's competition

Featured Replies

Was Matney coaching Sheldon Clark the year that Lawrence Co. beat them 7-6 before losing big to one of Highlands' best teams? I don't remember the year, but I think Chuke Williams was coaching and the Bluebirds won big, but the 'Dogs scored quite a few points in a losing effort. As I recall, both LC and SC had teams that would have had good shots at state titles in most years, but they had the misfortune of playing in the same year that Highlands might have fielded its best team ever.

I'm not sure but I think it was in 99 when we went 12-2 with are only losses coming at the hand's of a Matney SC team and to the Bluebirds of Highlands .The loss to SC was played at LC and it was most likely the best thing to ever happen to that team that year it kinda brought them down to earth. And if JC was to lose to Ashland it might just be a blessing in diskise sometimes a loss can help more then it hurts. .

JC really hasn't played a real tough team yet this year. With that being said I've been able to see them first hand and IMO they are for real. I don't think they are better then Highlands and maybe Cov Cath. Their offense looked better then what I think Bowling Green has but Bowling Green is a little better on defense I think. Offensively I think Lex Cath would give them fits but I think they have the kind of team that could play keep away. I think they are the best team in the Region although on a given night I think JC/Rock/Bell could all beat each other. They are a legit top 7 or so contender I think. When you take those top 7 in a one game playoff anything can happen. They would be favored in some and dogs in some. The bottom line is on any given Friday night deep in the playoffs anything can happen.

JC will beat Ashland on the 20th. Go ahead and write it down.

Last season's 13-10 loss to the Tomcats followed by the quick playoff exit thanks to Madison Southern caused enough pain for several seasons. I don't think this year's team will get caught overlooking anybody - if they lose it won't because of overconfidence.

That was a very talented LC team in '99. You are right about the year, but I was wrong about the score. Sheldon Clark beat Lawrence 18-16 and the Bulldogs lost to Highlands 76-36. Those were the only two games that LC scored fewer than 40 points that season.

I was thinking about SC's 7-6 loss to Rockcastle the following year in the regional championship game. That was the fewest points that Rock scored in any game that season.

Matney is a great defensive coach and anybody who expects that the Golden Eagles will be pushovers defensively are in for a shock. Matney's record prior to coming to JC is much more relevant to what can be expected of the Golden Eagle football program than what the program was like prior to his arrival in 2004.

That may be true but look for a quick playoff exit for either team... write it down.

Odds are they will meet each other in the 2nd round, so one of them will make it to the regional finals.

JC hasn't played what I would say a really good team this year but thats not their fault the sechdules are made most of the time 2 years in advance and if you look back 2 years ago and look at thier program then well I would say that this sechdule would be fitting for them . But now they have what they believe to be the best coach this side of the state and thats good for them to get behind him . I personaly think he's a pretty good coach but I also know that he hasn't done any thing YET that alot of other coaches hasn't I think if he stays at JC or goes some place were he has a lot of talent he will win a big game but as of now he hasn't . But I will say that JC will get to see a good team before they are done this season if it's Ashland or Rockcastle or Bell I don't know but they will get thier chance to shut every one up or get to eat a little crow. If they beat these teams then they will get the chance to play maybe Highlands or Lexington Cath. and if they are as good as they think they are then they will go to Louisville and repersent all of East KY . I would love to see them do it do I think they can ? As of right now I will say no . But I have been wroung alot more then I have been right . I just look at some of the teams we had in the 90's when we was winning by 40 and 50 points a game then we would go up agiants Highlands and they wouldn't even have thier starters dressed for the 2nd half of the game . But every year is different and maybe Matney is better then the coach we had and that will make the difference . I know JC is loaded this season and I think it's all going to fall on Matney's shoulder's if he pulls this out and beat's them then I think you can give him the credit as being one of the best around but untill he does he's just another good coach in my book. Good luck to JC and I would love to see us get a chance to play you all one more time this season by that then that would mean we made the playoff's Hope to see you all in the first or secound round .:ylsuper:

What JC game did you attend?

It is easy to talk about being better than Highlands, Cov cath, Bowling Green, Lex cath, when you won't see them on your schedule.

Wait until the 20th

What happens on the 20th? It's so far away I haven't even checked the schedule yet. :sssh:

What is the combned record of the JC opponents?

13-31

Granted, Johnson Central did cough the ball up early and often in giving up 35 points in its first round loss to Madison Southern, but that was the first playoff game in which any of those players had participated.

)

Do you seriously think that the game being a playoff game had any relevance what so ever on the outcome of the game? I just don't buy that when people say it was our first playoff game or it was our Homecoming, etc. That is like Rock saying they played bad against Boyle County in 2001 because it was their first state championship appearence. Which wasn't the case, BC would've won 10-10 times. State game or not. Rock beat Southern by 30 points last year I believe. Comparing scores as you have been doing means nothing, because each team matches up differently with each other.

You fail to mention that Rock also held SC to their lowest point total of the season.

Also the year before, 1999. Rock went into SC and scored 31 points on them.
