What happens on the 20th? It's so far away I haven't even checked the schedule yet. :sssh:

What is the combned record of the JC opponents?

It isn't really th combined records that stands out it is the quality of opponents that their opponents hae faced. For instance Paintsville has 4 wins but look at where those wins came from. Betsy Lane, Phelps, Allen Central and Jenkins. Those 4 teams have 4 combined wins on the season and those were either against each other or against South Floyd.

Bryan Station has won 1 game over a less than mediocre Southern school and gotten blown out the rest of the games. Being outscored 200-80.

North Laurel is 3-3 on the year with a 1 point win against Southern (see above), a win over South Laurel and a win over Leslie County. They are being outscored 180-117.

Then there are the 2 out of state schools whose records are pretty bad, but cannot comment on their opponents for not knowing enough about them.

Thanks. I agree that it is jsut one of the variables when trying to compare. Individual matchups will mean more. I will say this however, Ashland knows that they can step up and win a close game and this experience may come into play in a close game. JC is capable, but it hasn't been proven yet.

Do you seriously think that the game being a playoff game had any relevance what so ever on the outcome of the game? I just don't buy that when people say it was our first playoff game or it was our Homecoming, etc. That is like Rock saying they played bad against Boyle County in 2001 because it was their first state championship appearence. Which wasn't the case, BC would've won 10-10 times. State game or not. Rock beat Southern by 30 points last year I believe. Comparing scores as you have been doing means nothing, because each team matches up differently with each other.
I am not the one who questioned Johnson Central's strength of schedule, nor am I the one who commented on the Golden Eagles' traditionally poor playoff performance (despite this year only being Matney's third at the helm). Either playoff games are special and place added pressure on players or they aren't. You can't argue both sides of that coin.
You fail to mention that Rock also held SC to their lowest point total of the season.

Also the year before, 1999. Rock went into SC and scored 31 points on them.

I also failed to list the scores of every game that each team played that season - because it was not relevant to the point that I was making.

That point was that Jim Matney coached teams have been very tough defensively in the seasons that Sheldon Clark had talent available. Matney has more athletes to pick from now that he is coaching at a school with a larger enrollment and he has not forgotten how to teach players to play defense.

Given Rockcastle's own weak schedule, I would have expected a Rockcastle fan to be the last one to cast stones at Johnson Central's schedule.

I don't think that anybody from JC has claimed that its schedule is anything but underwhelming. JC's remaining district schedule is tougher than Rockcastle's remaining schedule, so in the end there will be very little difference in the two teams' regular season strength of schedule. Yet, I have heard nobody suggest that the Rocks' schedule will be its undoing in the playoffs. Suggestions that JC can't win the region because of its regular season schedule. Both teams are in the hunt for the regional title, as are Ashland and Bell County, and comments to the contrary are nonsense.

Most of North Laurel's scoring deficit can be attributed to its 34 point loss to Johnson Central. Bryan Station also lost to an undefeated Lafayette team by 8 points.

Are you absolutely sure that Corbin, with its two wins, is better than Bryan Station. I'm not. If Johnson Central's schedule spells trouble for the Golden Eagles in the playoffs, then maybe they will be fortunate enough to play Rockcastle in the regional finals. If so, then the two teams' weak schedules should cancel each other out.

I am very happy for Johnson Central's success the last couple of seasons. However, I would advise that the game of football was not invented in Paintsville. Enjoy these good years, but remember you won't always be on top. It will be interesting to observe the reaction at Johnson Central when that happens.

Lafayette was beating BS by 32 when the prematuraly put in the JV kids.....
