Yes, Jeter would be my choice for AL MVP. Hey, we aren't taking pitchers yet!!!!!:lol: I will acknowledge that Jeter will IMO win the MVP this year, simply for the following reasons, he is a media darling first and foremost (to say otherwise is naive) and he has had his best offensive season, and his team is in the postseason again, and frankly I think he is more than deserving. My only argument is that IMO you simply can't remove a DH from the discussion. If the Sox had made the postseason, every talk radio outlet would be having this same banter. I just feel that the DH is every bit as significant. Personally, I wish they'd abolish it, but it is what it is, and you simply can't discount it IMO!

October 4, 200619 yr Derek Jeter MVP without a doubt. IMO he is the best all around player in baseball and the way he carries himself on & off the field makes him an ambassador to baseball.

I like defensive players and any good baseball program, is built around Pitching and Defense, then Offense. DH is a batting position and not a fielding position. MVP's to me, are players that are the best who help both in the field and at the plate. Most awards, are production related I agree but until a DH plays in the field and goes through the rigors other players do, I'll never be in favor of an MVP, being awarded to a DH. Big difference between clutch and MVP....You may have created an award for DH's, the "Clutch Award", given to the best DH who bats 4 offensive times per game and sits down, the rest. :thumb: Well said.

And that's why Ortiz can't be an MVP. I agree that he has the numbers to be an MVP, but Jeter has done more for his team. And that's what the award is for.

October 4, 200619 yr He's baseball intelligent and certainly at times, he over-emphasizes a point. He can take a simple 5 second response and talk about for innings....I do like some of his comments but I watch TV games, as a fan and not to get educated in every aspect of the game, which he tends to attempt. How much will the playoffs go toward, determining the MVP or will it take away votes from the ones you mentioned and let some others make it a close race. I think one can certainly help themselves, more than hurt themselves.... I belive that I heard them say last night that the AL MVP voting was completed at the end of the regular season and does not include the post season.
