I knew it was a few moons ago but just not exactly when.... Thanks Ram

^ Ive watched many a game in this stadium since 1975. Great place to watch a game with a unique setup with respect to the stands, locker rooms and hill.... I can remember many years ago that the roof tops of the houses on the west and east ends of the stadium would have several people on them watching the games. It got to be quite a "normal" thing back in the late 70's... I understand that many a great football players played on that field over the years: Hornung, Lyons, just to name two.... Many of the Male vs, Manual T-Day games.... St. X games etc... I hope that Manual can keep up the property and maintain the stadium where it is today with respect to facilities etc. Need new lights and restrooms, concession stands etc.... Just how many a young man, middle aged man, old men have visited the local neighborhood pubs over the years on there way to or from Manual stadium??? Great tradition.....
My favorite place to watch a High School football game, without question. Granted I may be biased due to playing there, however the atmosphere on a big night is exactly what I think of when I think of High School football. Manual Stadium isn't going anywhere, it still is better than 90+% of the stadiums being played in today, and is a symbol of pride for the school and the community.

Quite a bit has been done and continues to be done to the stadium to liven it up.

I must admit though that I was a little disheartened to see the home field lockeroom after it had been redone. I loved "oldness" and dark ambiance that steeped you right into that hundred year old Louisville tradition of Manual football.

Some people have dogged the stadium for it's poor lighting and old locker rooms, but I think everyone of those aspects add character to a great city landmark.

So, in 1924 who played games there??? Male? St. X, Flaget? U of L ? and of course Manual... Just wondering who all used the stadium over the years.... I do remember stories of the stadium hosting the state championship..... Any posters with more experience than me, please help....

Scribe! I cant imagine you not whipping out a pic of War Memorial Stadium in Mayfield, its one of the most storied of all

The 1945 National Champions Alabama defeated UK in Manual Stadium that year. Also I know that on several occasions UofL used Manual stadium as a home field.

I looked. Believe me. I looked.
Any Leslie County High pics ?

I'd say Leslie County was built much, much later than the WPA projects. These projects, by design of Franklin Roosevelt's "New Deal," took place during the Great Depression as a way to provide jobs for unemployed people, not only in Kentucky, but throughout the county.

If you ever see Footage of Johnny Unitas playing for U of L in College on ESPN, it is probably at Manual Stadium. Some well know people that have played there include the aforemention, as well as PeeWee Reese for Manual's Baseball team, Howard Schnellenburger played there for Flaget, as well as Will Wollford for St. X, I was told Bear Bryant Coached a game there when he was the coach for UK. Alot of people don't know this, but one of UK's Past Presidents started his teaching career as a Coach for Manual Football94.18.2427.gif Coach Albert Kirwan University of Kentucky President from 1968-1969, head coach at Manual Training High School, Louisville Kentucky circa 1935

^ All of the above is just a small reason it is named "Historic Manual Stsdium". Any other stadium in the state lay claim to having such history? Please share stories of your program and or stadium.

In addition Dr. Kirwan was head football coach at UK from 1938-44 and the Kirwan portion of the UK Dorms that includes the 23 story Kirwan Tower and several low rise dorms are named in his honor. The Kirwan portion of the Kirwan - Blanding Dorm complex at UK houses men only in the tower or atleast did durning my tenure at UK (I lived in Kirwin Tower on the 3rd floor Thankfully). The low rise Kirwin dorms are or atleast were coed.

Scribe, I am shocked that you didnt find the time to drive over and snap off a few pics of good ole War Memorial, come on a Friday Night and I will be glad to accompany you

I need to. I've thought about taking a few and keeping a collection. Heck, I drove past ten or so last week, including Somerset, Pineville, and Log Mountain.

k, thanks

Very interesting, Scribe, Thanks.

I do have a question:

How many of theses stadiums are still in use today by those they were intended for?
