2A Sleepers

Featured Replies

You already know plenty about CAL, Danville, DeSales, Mayfield, LCA, etc. Let's take a look at some of the teams flying below the radar right now in 2A.

#6 Glasgow Scotties (3-0)

36.6 ppg

8.3 ppg allowed

Wins - 1A #8 Russellville (21-13), 3A Bardstown (48-9), Fort Campbell (41-3)

Glasgow has quietly put together a strong start to the season and has climbed to the #6 ranking in the BGP 2A poll. An upcoming stretch of games against unbeaten Allen County-Scottsville, Warren East, and Franklin Simpson will reveal a little more about the Scotties and whether or not they're capable of crashing the party among the upper echelon of 2A. They might not be below the radar much longer.

#9 Walton Verona Bearcats (2-1)

34.6 ppg

13.6 ppg allowed

Wins - 4A East Jessamine (43-20), 4A Holmes (41-0)

Loss - 1A #3 Kentucky Country Day (20-21)

Even with the close loss to a great KCD squad, the Bearcats are a program trending upwards. They'll get the opportunity to test their mettle against one of 2A’s best in two weeks against #5 LCA. Then we'll have a much better idea of where they stand in the class.

#10 Somerset Briar Jumpers (1-2)

18 ppg

17 ppg allowed

Wins - 1A #5 Williamsburg (25-8)

Losses - 4A Bourbon County (29-36), 1A #1 Beechwood (0-7)

The Jumpers have faced the most challenging schedule of any of the teams listed here. A disappointing opening loss to Bourbon County after a wild 2nd half shootout, got their season off on the wrong foot. But they've turned things around in the past two weeks with a big win at Williamsburg and a good showing in a 7-0 defeat to Beechwood. They're sure to take on some L’s in the coming weeks because the schedule is nothing short of murderous from here on out. But, they'll be as battle tested as anyone come playoff time.

Lloyd Juggernauts (1-1)

24 ppg

24.5 ppg allowed

Win - 4A West Jessamine (34-14)

Loss - 1A #1 Beechwood (14-35)

Lloyd has only played two games thus far, so they're a little harder to get a read on than some of the other teams. But the talent is there for them to make some noise in a playoff region that's not beyond their reach. The next few weeks should allow them to put together a few more wins before things get a little tougher with 6A Conner, NewCath, and 4A Scott in the back half of the schedule.

Green County Dragons (3-0)

39.6 ppg

6.3 ppg allowed

Wins - Adair County(14-6), Caverna (53-13), Berea (52-0)

The Dragons haven't exactly played the most challenging schedule, but I want to give them a shout-out for a 3-0 start after a 1-10 season a year ago. Can they pose any kind of threat to Glasgow in the district? We'll find out a little more about them in the coming weeks as the schedule will provide some greater challenges than they've faced so far.

Can any of these teams put a dent in the collective runaway freight train at the top of this class?

Maybe Glasgow... but, the top 5 are pretty dominant.

Don't think they can hang at the top but they can have great seasons and have a punchers chance in a game against a better team. Especially Glasgow.

No sleepers. Champion will come from top 6 IMO

No sleepers in 2A, IMO it's just so top heavy. Glasgow has a very good team but will be matched up with DeSales/CAL in the 2nd round, then play the other in the Regional championship, then mayfield in semi and Danville in finals. That would take putting 4 almost flawless games together. Truthfully it's not many schools in the entire state who could put that together in back to back to back to back weeks.

Actually with the cross bracketing Glasgow draws away from the desales/cal freight train. Glasgow and Green County district is matched up with the newcath district and I think Glasgow would probably be favored to meet Newcath in the regional finals but not sure of the location

Not this year, the top is to far ahead

If it's NewCath and the Scottish, I believe the game will in Newport.
