I haven't seen a football field that sloppy since my Junior or Senior year when SK played Highlands at SK. It was Scharlam and Reynolds Senior year I believe. At least 24 years ago.

Close to 60 games were rescheduled for Thursday or Saturday.

Might have had something to do with the fact they wanted to avoid lightning/thunder delays. There were plenty of other games played on grass throughout the state.

 

According to the scoreboard, there were 37 games played last night. Only 5 of them where the winning team scored only two TDs or less. And many teams that scored way more than that! So it would appear to me that the mass majority of the state's winning teams had little issue with the weather.

Nope. Boone had the money raised years ago when Shawn Alexander offered to pay for theirs. The BCSB said no because Conner wouldn't have turf. Their thinking is that if one gets it they all do. Ryle has turf because they were tricky about it. Heck, the BC schools don't even get buses to athletic events other than football. The fight will still be on even after Conner has the money.

 

This again! Your information is incomplete. Shawn Alexander offered to pay part of the cost and he could get a good deal with the turf company to hold the cost down for the rest of it. That meant the school board would have to pay the remaining cost which they can't do unless they also do it for the other schools. The project would have cost the county school system a great deal of money after the generous offer by Alexander so it was a no go.

 

Ryle, on the other hand, had a donor that paid the ENTIRE cost so there was no money required from the school district. Therefore, they were allowed to do that.

 

I assume that if Conner raises the entire amount for the cost of getting turf from outside sources, the school district will be happy to approve it. They may have already given the green light. It would have been prudent to ask for approval before engaging in fund raising.

If SK/Conner game was on a dry field it would have been bad for Conner. They played a good game their players where fired up big time. SK did their job and won. Great teams find a way to win.

Mrs Borland donated $750k of the $956k needed for the field and track renovation at Ryle. Her commitment came on March 13, 2008. Other donors had chipped in $156k in a 2-month period preceding her incredible gift, which was a great response to the fundraising campaign officially launched on January 11, 2008. A donor provided a $50k interest-free loan to complete funding. The Raider Athletic Club raised money to repay that loan. The project was approved at the January 10, 2008 school board meeting without anything tricky. Only 3 rules - raise the entire amount, work through the approved BOE construction project channels and obtain 3 bids from qualified vendors. I hope this information helps. I hope they are successful for their students to enjoy the luxury of having a turf field. It is nice to have one for all sports, even early baseball get's out there when it's still muddy.
