I interrupt this thread to bring you an important opinion:

 

I don't have a dog in the fight, but I will take up for the Linemen some and say, in my experience it is much easier to run, cut, jump and slide in the mud then it is to block. You lose your leverage and strength trying to push someone while you are sliding.

With all due respect, I have to both agree with you and disagree with you. I played OL in HS and DL in College before the nice field turf days. Agree, yes on the leverage. Disagree in that it depends on the blocking scheme. When we had slop to play in, coaches would call a lot of counters, trap and sweeps where some OL would pull. Always would result in pancake blocks and huge holes. Conversely as a DLineman I would get pancaked the same way in slop on similar plays. But in straight zone blocking you are absolutely correct.

I truly think score comparisons can be misleading due to individual match-ups, conditions, injuries, turn overs, coaching and personnel adjustments after the game. None of those ever get factored in. Each game takes on a life of it's own. Giving you a hard time because you like to rehash old scores.

Ryle run game > Conner. Ryle D in the last 6 quarters gave up 0 pts (Henry Clay TD was special teams) injuries on O and D are healing. Game is at Ryle so they won't have the netrulizing conditions. Someone said Conners QB was throwing ducks. Not gonna predict a score but it sounds like Ryle is trending better than Conner.

You are correct, blocking with a good angle is easier. Straight ahead blocking, not so much. And conversely, getting blocked at an angle is not easy to overcome.

Ryle beats Conner by 2 TDs - too much Chisholm, too much depth.

 

If Trosper has any sense he will just put Simpson in the wildcat for the whole game. Simpson is as dynamic a player as Chisholm but somehow I think Conner won't be as efficient getting him the ball.

This again! Your information is incomplete. Shawn Alexander offered to pay part of the cost and he could get a good deal with the turf company to hold the cost down for the rest of it. That meant the school board would have to pay the remaining cost which they can't do unless they also do it for the other schools. The project would have cost the county school system a great deal of money after the generous offer by Alexander so it was a no go.

 

Ryle, on the other hand, had a donor that paid the ENTIRE cost so there was no money required from the school district. Therefore, they were allowed to do that.

 

I assume that if Conner raises the entire amount for the cost of getting turf from outside sources, the school district will be happy to approve it. They may have already given the green light. It would have been prudent to ask for approval before engaging in fund raising.

 

Thank you for correcting the information I had heard. I will take your info as truth since you are one of the people who I respect on this site when they say something since your posts are usually unbiased and true. Most are just nasty and stick to the facts. Thanks for the info. I will remember that next time I am part of a conversation on the subject.
