I think your time frame is off. His best games came against AJ Green, not Chad Johnson. Chad wasn't even a Bengal anymore once Haden arrived.

The Browns are doing nearly a total overhaul, nothing surprises me when it comes to them right now.

Well, he will be cheap getting $4M from the Browns regardless where he signs or if he signs. As mentioned, safety on a playoff type team is where he will go.

 

And the Browns take a $10 MM + hit to to the dead cap space.

Just joking. I get your point. I'll bet the idea of getting cut by a team that you once were the second best player on and had been completely loyal to was the thing that hurt him first. Then after he has time to think about it, the loss of income will be the pain that lasts.

 

I always said the best spot on the team is a back up QB where the starter never gets hurt.

Once again I can almost guarntee he meant Green. It's not saying much about Haden that he could slow down the 2010 version of Chad Johnson. Most corners by then did pretty well on him.

You guys are correct. For some reason my mind frequently conflates Chad Johnson and AJ Green. I guess the "old" in oldgrappler should be underlined.

 

Here's what cleveland.com had to say in an article about the Steelers picking up Haden:

 

NFL Network reported that the Browns tried to reduce Haden's salary from $11.1 million to $7 million but he declined. But that same $7 million looked golden to him when the Steelers offered it.

 

Looks like analytics put a price tag on Haden's value to the team and when he wouldn't budge, they cut him. I'm glad he landed some where quickly but not glad it is with the Steelers. "I hate the Steelers," says the life-long Browns fan (me).

Erving just hasn't been able to cut it in the NFL. The Browns tried to play him at center but it was beyond the 1st round draft pick's ability. He played guard last year and was competing for the right tackle position. I guess he lost. With the acquisition of several good free agents for the offensive line in the off-season Erving became expendable. The Browns front office is building for the future and unfortunately for Cam Erving, he ain't the future.
