Like I said I really think you need to find a new team. The Bengals clearly are not an organization that share the same philosophy as you do. There are plenty of others who have tried to win with your philosophy like the Browns. Or you can sit back and relax and enjoy the most successful run in franchise history and watch as Andy Dalton leads this team to a playoff win.

I do feel a little sorry for you in that aspect. You don't know what it's actually like to follow a winner.

We will just have to agree to disagree on who should be the starting qb. Hey I could be wrong. AJ could be worse but the problem is we won't know until it actually happens.

 

So lets just just go on rooting on this team. Hopefully your right and we win in the playoffs this year. And hopefully I'm wrongnwhen I say we won't make the playoffs.

My Dad bought season tickets in 1979. He has missed 2 home games since. He was at both Super Bowls. I asked him and he said the first 5 years of AD's career were the longest run of consistent success in team history. They were relevant for 5/6 years of AD's career. No other QB in franchise history can say that. Anderson and Boomer went to Super Bowls but didn't put 5 years together like AD did. You keep talking about playoff wins and rightfully so because AD hasn't won a playoff game yet, but you have to get there. You have a guy who has a very very high success rate of getting there, but you want to start all over. I don't want to take that risk. You're right I wasn't alive when the Bengals went to the Super Bowl the last time. But the Bengals have been irrelevant my entire life with the exception of 6 years. Why take the chance to go back to irrelevancy when you are already knocking on the door of playoff success? If Andy falls flat on his face this year then fine let's see what AJ can do. But when you have a team as loaded at the skill positions as this team, why tear it all down now by starting AJ? You can deny all you want but we have no idea what AJ would be like for 16 games. AJ McCarron is a completely unnecessary gamble with a small return if it does work out and could be a huge loss if it doesn't.

Your dad got them 2 years after we did. We got them in 77 and like your dad got to enjoy both SB's. So we shared many great memories. As your dad can attest to, there is nothing like following this team during their Super Bowl seasons.

He has an 80% success rate of making the playoffs. I'll take my chances when we get there with Andy over potentially not getting there with AJ. It's pretty simple.

 

When are some going to realize a huge reason Dalton has made the playoffs to much is not because of him. 2011 2012 it was the defense. 2013 he had a good year and a top 3 defense. 2014 he didn't do well but had a top 5 running game and a top 10 defense. 2015 he was having a mvp type season. But guess what games he didn't look great in still and they lost. His prime time games against a average Houston team at home and then Arizona. Last year the defense didn't play well until the last half of the season and running game wasn't good. Dalton throw only 18 tds, so not like he stepped up when truly finally needed. Most of the playoffs the Bengals went to with Dalton, arguably there would have been a lot of qbs who could have also made it with those teams.

 

McCarron also showed that in his 4 games. The 2 teams they were suppose to beat the 49ers and Ravens. McCarron just like Dalton does beat them. It is simple Dalton has to have a lot around him to win games. He needs a very good defense, at least a decent run game, and top weapons to throw too. That doesn't sound like a qb who can carry or lead a team. That sounds like the same things any not top tier qb would need. Which is why at worst I feel like McCarron would at least do what Dalton does and beat the teams he is suppose to. Which is exactly how Dalton has made the playoffs so much. Both qbs need a lot around them to do well. So both should beat those type of teams. It comes down to who can handle the big moments against the better teams. Dalton in 6 years hasnt.

I will say I am getting everything out on this topic now, so I don't have to discuss it again. I know Dalton is the qb this year and that's not changing. So with the third preseason game coming up, my focus on talks will be on how they as a team are doing, and hoping Dalton proves me wrong and gets it done. If the line can hold up, he should have a good chance to do it.

The players that have the most to do with a QB's success are the offensive lineman... Dalton hasn't had near the talent on the O-line as Anderson and Esiason did in their SB seasons... not even close. If AJ takes over at QB... same thing. The O-line is far from the O-lines of past Bengal teams...

 

Heck, I don't even think Palmer enjoyed a very good O-line like Anderson and Esiason did for short stretches...

 

We haven't had a legit Center in maybe 20 years... seriously.

 

If you don't have time to hand the ball off or allow plays to develop downfield... you don't have much chance.

Everyone knows that this year's O-line is weak... so if The Bengals make a playoff run... I think we can all agree that Dalton or McCarron or (whoever is QB) is gonna have to play very well for that to happen.

 

Also, I'd love it if people would quit underestimating the skill players from those SB teams on both sides of the ball...

I mean, for Esiason... James Brooks, Ickey Woods and Stanley Wilson... Rodney Holman (great TE), Eddie Brown, Tim McGee, Chris Collinsworth... great players.

On defense: Krumrie was a beast, Fulcher was a beast,... Thomas, Wilcots and Billups were very solid players... if Billups doesn't drop that INT, he makes the biggest play in franchise history...

 

The O-line... please... Munoz, Montoya, etc etc

 

Anderson had Griffin and Pete Johnson, Dan Ross, Collinsworth, Curtis... I mean, those were great teams with good coaches... it takes a team.. if it was only QB, why did Anderson and Esiason only get there once?

In fact, never even got to another AFC Championship game... either QB... why not? Because it takes a team effort... not just a QB effort.

Without question. McCarron looked average at best in his short stint at the helm. Dalton is the city's favorite whipping boy and there's no reason for it IMO.

Besides for two years 2013 and 2015 has Dalton looked any better than just average? Imo 2011, 2012, 2014, and 2016 were all very average by him, and I'm not sure how someone could argue that. 2013 and 2015 he played very good, except in prime time games and playoff game still.

 

You won't hear me say McCarron looked great because I agree he did look average. However I think he would be like Dalton average most years, and occasionally break out for a big year like Dalton did twice in 6 years. The difference for me is can Dalton get better in the big moments. In 6 years he still hasn't looked much better in those moments. While McCarron at worst has looked as good if not better than Dalton in those moments. Yet he also did it with a lot less experience.

 

McCarron could suck. I'm just willing to take that chance if Dalton and the Bengals fail again.
