August 20, 20179 yr You may want to learn who you are talking to. I am not the one who complains about every little thing with Dalton. In fact I even have said many times in the regular season especially in games at 1 and 4 he is very good. However my problem is his play in prime time and playoff games. Dalton has been surrounded for his career with the best talent on offense and defense any Bengals qb has ever had. So yes he should do well. As we seen that has not been enough to help him play well in biggest games. Never once have I said he is bad. That is my other buddy on this site. However I believe McCarron could also win regular season games like Dalton with this talent. However he may handle the bigger moments better than Dalton has in his 6 years. I don't want to just settle for being a good regular season too. We have done that. I want to take the next step. Dalton has shown nothing in 6 years to show he can handle those moments. I fully admit maybe McCarron would fail. I am just willing to take that chance that he wouldn't in hopes he would handle those moments better than Dalton and get us over that next step. I know exactly who I'm taking to... I'm not referring only to complaints on little things... I'm talking about truly believing McCarron should start over Dalton... McCarron started a playoff game... how'd that go? Did we win? Point is... it wasn't just on McCarron that they lost... and it's not just on Dalton... Fantasy Football has destroyed a fan's ability to be realistic about the game... Fact is, the trenches have always decided football games. Period. You need good coaching and execution... u need good skill players, etc... But if you're getting pushed around, you lose... Go back and watch every playoff game... we lost on both lines... couldn't run consistently, couldn't stop the run... Even when we had a win against Pittsburgh, they found a way to lose... btw, Dalton didn't play... I actually do think that loss is on Dalton, because if he was healthy, they would've won.
August 20, 20179 yr Were you a fan of the Bengals in the 90's? That's mediocrity. This is a far cry from it. Unless you believe AJ is Tom Brady behind the scenes then you can't honestly believe the Bengals are complacent when it comes to the QB position. I am not going to say AJ is like the best qb of all time. However I do think AJ leadership and mindset for big moments would be closer to a Brady than Dalton. The Pats had a good pro bowl qb in Bledsoe who took a team to the super bowl. So he was even better than a Dalton. However his backup Tom Brady was the missing piece. Most people forget that 2001 Patriots team who won the Super Bowl lost their first game that year against a horrible Bengals team while Bledsoe was still the starter. The next game Bledsoe got hurt and the rest was history. Brady at that time wasn't a better passer than Bledsoe and didn't have the experience. But his leadership mindset was what what that team needed. He was basically a game manager but when they needed it he made the plays. So yes I do think a person leadership ability and mindset for the big moments can make a big difference for their team at the qb spot. McCarron needs talent around him, but his mindset would fit with the talent on this team.
August 20, 20179 yr Defense was horrible tonight... let's hope it was just young guys making mental miscues... and fix it asap O-line was mostly horrible too, but we expect that unfortunately
August 20, 20179 yr It's gonna be a long season. I really hope your wrong... but I think you're right... Unless our O-line surprises us and our defense wakes up... Positives: wr core looks deep We have 2 kickers that can kick fg's and extra points
August 20, 20179 yr Bengals are not very good! Hey, it's pre-season... they're playing opossum... I hope, lol

Check out post 4. I agree line play makes a huge difference. Having a leader at qb who will get into them also helps. Having a qb who can make a play when things aren't going well would help. McCarron has done that. If it wasn't for one of the craziest endings in NFL history they win. Dalton in his playoff games plays bad a long with everyone else. Instead of making a play to change things he usually gets worst too. And they beat Pittsburgh with Dalton? Based off what? His great play in playoff games? His great play in prime time games? His great play in pouring down rain? His great history against the Steelers? The fact that he has only scored more than 20 three times against the Steelers. Or the fact that out of the 3 games he won in 12 times against the Steelers. He and the offense scored less than 16 points in 2 of those wins. So yeah makes perfect sense that Dalton would have won that game.... Fans who want to hold on to that fact and think oh well we win with Dalton. Think that to make themselves feel better about how that season ended. Even though 6 years of data on Dalton suggest otherwise.

Positives: wr core looks deep We have 2 kickers that can kick fg's and extra points Pauly G always likes to blitz more in preseason and early in regular season. Then he realizes it doesn't work well for them. Then goes back to the normal relying on his front four to put pressure on qb and dropping 7. Then we see them play well when he stops trying all his blitzes that never work well for us. Offensively they been very conservative with play calling. However the first team still had yet to score a td. So that is concernining. Hopefully they open it up in the regular season once Ross and Gio play.

Positives: wr core looks deep We have 2 kickers that can kick fg's and extra points I feel like besides qb. We agree on a lot right now. I truly do hope Dalton proves me wrong and you right and he gets us over the top.

Let's pretend Marvin got fired and you got hired... which probably could be an upgrade.. lol! Okay, what has Dalton done to lose the job and McCarron to win the job...? Does McCarron know the playbook better? Does he practice better? Did he lead them to a win that everyone knows Dalton couldn't have done? You've seen these guys and you know football... as Hellbird knows football... I respect your knowledge and that's why it cracks me up that you guys want to bench a QB who has been a winner in Cincinnati... Honestly, I don't even think Palmer has a winning record in Cincy... It's hard to do in their division, let's be honest. It's hard to make the playoffs, much less win in them... Is McCarron faster? Have a stronger arm? More accurate passer? Do the players like and respect him more than Andy? I actually know the answer to that as a few of them live in my neighborhood and I've heard nothing but positivity about Andy.... I've heard nothing bad about AJ either. I think they're both great guys, but how do you justify to Andy and the team to make that move? It can't logically be justified... it's purely an emotional argument and that's why Andy will remain the QB for at least 6 or 7 more seasons... barring injury... Feel free to answe any of those questions, but you don't have to... I've typed a novel at this point... my apologies, lol!

I don't know any Bengals QB that had a great record against them... they're darn good year in and year out. Maybe Esiason had some solid years against them when they were down for a few years... for awhile it was the Oilers and Bengals fighting it out

You realize I answered all those questions in the many novels I wrote on this subject this week. Check out the McCarron thread and I forget the other thread it was discussed in. If i took over right now. I would keep Dalton as starter and give him one more chance. If he fails again and still looks bad in prime time and playoff games. I would then trade him for draft picks because probably get a 1st and 2nd rounder for him at worst. I then sign McCarron back, and go with him while adding more talent. I then also would have a little more money to sign Eifert and Tez back since I traded Dalton. I am for giving Dalton this season to see if he can finally show he can get them over the hump. I'm just doubtful come playoff time that he could handle it and make enough plays to help. So if he fails again I would trade him. My main reason for arguing is when people want to act like were crazy for thinking McCarron maybe would give us a better shot. So I explain why I feel that way. However I still would give Dalton this one last shot.

My point is there was very little reason to believe we do any better with Dalton that game. Honestly McCarron got us the same point total Dalton usually gets us against them. Except McCarron managed to do that in a playoff game where McCarron has just as many tds as Dalton has in 4.
