Rushmore and never will be, but notable as a fine Kentucky artist, Covington native and Scott High grad Jesse Thomas wasted no time running off to L.A. immediately following graduation, and turned critics' heads with her tasty folky outpout on her first EP in 2010. I've had the pleasure a couple of times catching her live on tour when she made her way back home to play locally. Here's a fantastic in-studio performance from her singing songs from her first full length about 5 years ago. August 16, 20179 yr Over the last 15 years or so Louisville native Jim James has become massively famous as the leader of the jam rock band My Morning Jacket, and pretty much now is being considered the father of the this hippy genre now that Jerry Garcia has passed. Just like Deadheads who travelled the country following The Grateful Dead, you now have hippies far and wide traveling to follow Jim James and My Morning Jacket. Perhaps I have mistaken your intentions, and if so my apologies... Since you're asking, I'll also ask you the same question... If "massively famous" is determined depending on whether or not you personally know who he is, or have ever heard of him, then I suppose he won't cut it in that category. However, for me Jim James' resume speaks for itself: He and his band My Morning Jacket have an enormous following worldwide, many who travel from show to show to see them play. The band has been growing this following for the last 18 years, having them headline, or have high billing in countless high profile music festivals here in the states, and around the world. I'll assume that you've heard of Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Glastonbury to name a few? They've appeared on The Tonight Show w/ Jimmy Fallow, Jimmy Kimmel, Letteman, and SNL. They have played numerous sell out multi-engagement nights in various cities to support their demand including selling out Madison Square Gardens, and multi-nights bills in Red Rocks, and so on... Aside from also being the the leader and producer of My Morning Jacket, and his own solo work, he as collaborated with or produced countless other artists such as M. Ward, Conor Oberst, Bright Eyes, America, VSH or Beta, The Decemberists, Monsters of Folk, The Roots, Daniel Martin Moore, Ben Sollee, Booker T. Jones, Issac Hayes, The Flaming Lips, Jay Farrar of Son Volt, John Fogerty, Laura Veirs, Neko Case, Gov't Mule, Camera Obscura, Dawes, Ray LaMontagne, Elbow, and Bob Dylan to name a few. Ask any Deadhead type today who has taken over in place of Jerry Garcia as the leader of the hippy jam genre, and I'll assure you that 99.9% of them will tell you Jim James (I'll assume you've heard of Jerry Garcia). That all seems to be worthy enough for me to deem him "massively famous", but until you anoint him as such, I suppose that we'll need to wait a little longer to see if he does anything in his career worth noting Now if you'd like, you're free to pretend that I presumed too much with your original question, and that you were sold on him long before I provided any of this relevant data. And again, if I am mistaken, my sincere apologies.
August 17, 20179 yr Former student of mine. She was a great kid! This is so cool to know. :thumb: She's very good, and I hope that one day this will translate into a bigger audience. She certainly hit the ground running right out of high school, and has been keeping at it ever since.

Much Bigger Niche'...I'd venture to say The Dead had exponentially bigger following than MMJ does. The Dead became a part of Pop Culture, MMJ may get there some time but they aren't there yet...IMO.
