No way that could be verified and as the years increase, so would the distances.

KHSAA Baseball Tournament History

Another record to likely stand awhile is 5 hits in one inning by Lawrence Buell of Middlesboro in 1984...hard to get 5 AB in an inning on the best of teams, let alone getting a hit in each. I played against Buell (a terrific basketball player as well) but not in that particular game:lol:

Just noticed William Campbell, also of Middlesboro, whom I do not remember, had 10 RBI in one inning, apparently in that same game against Pineville in 1984...obviously, there wasn't much on the field for Pineville and therefore even more reason such records are likely out of reach.

Ok...I may have found the oddest record and then I'll shut up.

 

Michael Ray Charles of Phelps is far and away the leader in consecutive stolen bases without being caught at 72 (2nd place is 48). The stat alone is amazing, but even more crazy is that despite 72 in a row, he fails to get 100 in his career and does not even show on the career stolen base leaders.

I just ran across an interesting discovery on the KHSAA web site. Why is it that two (2) teams (Cumberland and Evarts) from the same region (Region 13) and same district (District 52) were not eligible for post season play last year. Has that sanction been lifted for 2007. There has to be a story there?

Cumberland lost to Clay in the 13th Region Tournament last season. Therefore, they were elgible for postseason play. I don't know why that is on there. Maybe HDE knows something about this.

Now that's a blast from the past for me, nice guy he lived in the same dorm as me during my freshman year at Morehead. Refresh my memory, he was a catcher, correct?

I can remember Durham's no-hitters like they were yesterday.

 

What makes his accomplishment even greater and weirder at the same time were 2 things:

 

1. His no-hitters came in back-to-back-to-back games. If I'm not mistaken, his accomplishment made the NFHS record books for consecutive no-hitters.

 

2. In the first no-hitter against Madison Southern, Durham pitched the complete 7 innings and LOST 2-1. The first run came in after a couple walks and an error.....the second run came when a couple batters were walked and then bunted over to second and third, then on a pop foul to the first base side, the catcher and first baseman went for the ball and Durham didn't cover home so the runner at third tagged from thirs and scored.

 

 

 

 

One other comment about the KHSAA record books, I sent in a GREAT deal of records that the Rockcastle COunty baseball team had accomplished a few years ago and they've not seemed to have been listed. If I get a chance this summer to go back home, that's one task that I will be trying to take on because there have been some awfully good baseball players go to Rockcastle County and they need to be recognized for their accomplishments.
