I'm in the process of watching Justified, which I really enjoy. When that is finish, I think I'm going to watch either The Sopranos or Vikings.

Let's vote.

The Sopranos is probably one of the five best shows in the history of television. It kicked off the Golden Age of television and is brilliant from start to finish. The acting is great. The writing is great. The direction is great.

Easy call for me. Watch The Sopranos.

I haven't really seen either, but Vikings is definitely more the type of show I enjoy more, so I'd go that route. Sopranos is supposedly fantastic though.

Both are great. Sopranos does jump the shark a few years into it, but it does rebound.

I vote Sopranos because it is an all time classic.

Sopranos is outstanding without running 100 mph ever episode. You find your self sympathizing with people who will do some horrible things.

A bit over the top, but "OZ" was very highly acclaimed and is really good series from HBO.

They are both outstanding, and both are very different. I personally don't think you can go wrong with either.

It's like comparing The Godfather to Braveheart.

The Sopranos is my second favorite show ever, so I voted Sopranos. But Vikings is not far behind.

I haven't seen Vikings, but I loved The Sopranos. That said, there were episodes when it felt like absolutely nothing happened. I'd watch wondering why I was still watching and when the credits rolled I couldn't wait for the next episode.

I could do without any dream sequence/fantasy episodes though.

Definitely Sopranos.

I've not watched one second of Vikings but The Sopranos is pantheon television. Watch it now.

Also, if you find yourself suddenly drinking a lot of red wine and telling the missus to make you some gravy...well, you've been warned.

What?!:idunno:

Best era of TV ever began in the early part of the 2000s with The Sopranos. I didn't make up the term "Golden Age" to describe those years, lots of others did.

Started with the Sopranos in 1999. Ended with the final season of Breaking Bad, in my opinion.

Huh. I have never seen that time frame described as the "golden age" and whole heatedly disagree with the description. Now, I have heard the 50's and early 60's described as such, which I agree with.

It would be like someone saying we are in the "golden age" of radio right now because of the rise of conservative talk shows the past few years. I wouldn't agree with that either.

**Just did a little research and saw where, indeed some consider that time frame a "2nd golden age" of tv. The true, original golden age, though was primarily in the 1950's, which is what I thought.

I will not hear that while Game of Thrones is still on the air.

Game of Thrones is definitely a child of that era. It has a lot of the features shared by the shows of the Golden Age.

But there were lots of good shows before the Golden Age. There are lots of good shows now. I don't think it changes the fact that the Age is over, replaced by "Peak TV".

Wait. How is the age over? Still an amazing amount of awesome TV shows on. Frankly, so many I can't keep up with everything I want to watch. Which wasn't the case even 5 years ago.

Off the top of my head, Game of Thrones, The Americans, and Better Call Saul are as good as anything during that era you speak of.
