No, Corbin's pigskin classic is a week 2 bowl game

Gotcha. Thanks guys.

It would be nice to see Belfry play in that in week 2 to return the favor of Corbin coming to Pond Creek in week 1.

The first time south had beaten Corbin in the History of the school was in 2001. Until then South Laurel had never beat Corbin in Football

Actually the first time South was beat by Corbin was in 1999. When South advanced to the third round of the playoffs the farthest any Laurel county team has ever made it

I wonder if the KHSAA pushing back the start of the season by one week will affect these plans or if Corbin will move the Pigskin to Labor Day weekend.

I thought that the Univ. of The Cumberlands vs. Union game was scheduled for Labor Day weekend again next year on Corbin's field which could potentially keep Corbin out of the Pike Co. Bowl.

??????

I believe it was in 2001 the first time south beat Corbin. Yes i am Correct it was at South when Stephen Cook and that group were seniors.

South beat Corbin in 1999 when Neal Warren(QB) was a senior and the Cardinals advanced to the regional championship game that year in 4A.

Corbin beat South Laurel 37-8 in the 2001 game.

If they beat us in 2001 that would mean that we lost to them 5 years in a row. According to the KHSAA scoreboard they beat us 35-20 in 1999 and we beat them in 2000, 45-21 and 2001, 37-8.

Corbin and Laurel Co./South Laurel stopped playing in the early 80's until the mid-late 1990's.

Is 2003 and 2004 the only years that Corbin and North have played?

see post #16

If Coach Jewell was dropping the series because he thought Corbin could not compete, it would have happened after the 2004 season. He knew that Corbin would struggle for a year or possibly a year and a half due to the lack of seniors on the 2005 & 2006 teams. At that time Corbin had won 3 out of the last 5 games.

Corbin loses two senior starters out of the seventeen different players that start and will return eight juniors and seven sophomores that start. Coach Jewell is a pretty intelligent man, so does it make sense to play Bell Co.(contract was up before the 2005 season) when you have two returning starters(2005 team)and then drop them when you have fifteen returning starters?

Why would you add Danville and Belfry(teams that are equal to or better than Bell year-in and year-out)if you are running from competition?

I hope they play myself, but if I were in Coach Jewell's shoes I would probably do the same thing.

That doesnt make sense. You hope they play, but if you wer in Coach Jewell's shoes you wouldnt play Bell? Ive not heard one good reason as to why Corbin wont play Bell County in football. It makes no sense. You can go on and on about who you are playing, Belfry, Danville, etc, but you have some cupcakes on your schedule when you could be playing Bell County. That IMO is a sad situation for the Corbin fans who truly want to see Corbin play a team like Bell rather than LCA or whatever other 1A or 2A school they can find.

South Laurel beat Corbin for the first time in the 1999 season. Corbin beat them in 2000, 2001, 2002. South has since beat Corbin in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006.

In coach Jewell's first season was when SL beat Corbin.

Danville and Belfry will be bowl games. Somerset was/is a bigger rival than Corbin/Bell, Bell had never beat Corbin until somewhere around 15 or so years back, before then most games were lopsided in Corbin's favor, where Corbin/Somerset was normally a competetive game for many, many years.

The North series should be picked back up, not sure who dropped who or if it was a scheduling conflict.

South is another rival like Bell, they had never beat us until around 10 years or so back and now they have won 4 in a row.

The LCA game is the only one that doesn't make sence to me. Although I heard someone say last year that the Corbin fans enjoy the easy trip to Lexington and make a weekend of it.

Add district games of Knott, Leslie and Middlesboro - that leaves one opening on the schedule, my guess is Rockcastle.

That scenario sounds plausible to me. I can understand Corbin not wanting to play a bigger school every week, and it isn't like Danville, Belfry and Lexington Christian are going to be cupcakes. The rest are old and local rivalries.

It's unfortunate, though, that a good and entertaining rivalry with Bell County might fall by the wayside.

Your insight on the Corbin Middle School program probably isn't needed.;)

Some probably feel the same way about your insight T.R., but they are intelligent enough to respect the right to freedom of speech and opinion. Just because we do not always agree does not mean we should not post. Read the rules.

Does anyone know if the Carton kid did go back to Pineville? That would give them 2 really good 8th grade backs.

I remember it now i had my years mixed up.

You know exactly where i am coming from there:fight:

I am hearing a lot of the problem has to do with the T.R. situation.

Also, if Corbin drops Bell, Bell is not going to really have any out of district rivals left are they?
