Bill Maher and Ice Cube Set to Face Off

Featured Replies

Not much from the MSM on Bill Maher putting his foot in his mouth last week. I don't watch his show but I'd love to see this one.

Ice Cube Will Take On Bill Maher Over House Remark | TMZ.com

Ice Cube isn't about to let Bill Maher's "house n-word" crack stop him from appearing on 'Real Time' ... in fact, Cube's ready to mix it up with Bill over the n-word. Bill's n-word comment won't go ignored either.

Sources close to Cube tell us he will NOT cancel the appearance, which was scheduled before Maher's controversial joke. Sen. Al Franken was also scheduled, but chose to bail.

Cube's not "edit" footing around the issue. He's been using the n-word liberally in his music, ever since NWA -- but we're told he wants to discuss Bill's use of it.

Cube was originally booked to talk about the 25th anniversary edition of his album, "Death Certificate." His rep calls it perfect timing because the record was made in the wake of the Rodney King beating, "[W]hich sadly, speaks to many of the same race issues we as a society are still dealing with today."

We're betting Maher gets a different reaction from Cube than he did Sen. Sasse.

Maybe more like Killer Mike?

I saw it all over my news feeds and on TV last week. Not sure it's been ignored at all. Maybe it hasn't been as dramatic because words just don't hold a punch like the visual of a Louis XVI / Donald Trump head on display.

It's been all over the place. I'm amazed it took this long for it to reach BGP. I watched it live as I record his show every week. My wife and I were both shocked. I replayed it 2-3 times and then switched the channel. My father, my sister and myself had a group text about it as my sister and I were uncomfortable with his use of the word and how flippant he was in using it. The one thing that bothered me the most was seeing white liberals now being the ones saying, "get over it, it was a joke, quit being so offended by everything, if a black comedian said it no one would care....."

My dad then said this about Bill Maher and how we need to handle it going forward:

"I agree with you about the white liberals, but to build a successful movement and get things done, sometimes you have to work with people who you wouldn't necessarily bring into your home or hang out with. We can't get sidetracked by fusses and disagreements. We have to focus on the big picture. We'll need these people in next year's elections and again in 2020."

Once again, pops is right.

Been all over my newsfeed too. Mainstream and Liberal media haven't cut Maher any slack with many personalities demanding he is fired.

The man isn't afraid of tough conversations. Sounds like he has one coming this week.

As for Cube and Maher, I don't expect much to come from that. Reaction from the black community has been mixed and Cube was already scheduled to go on the show to promote the 25th Anniversay re-release of his album Death Certificate. I imagine they'll discuss Maher's screw up briefly, Cube will "scold" him, Bill will recognize the error of his ways and they'll move on to discussing Rodney King, the LA Riots, Donald Trump and promoting his album.

Oh, and Al Franken backed out of appearing on his show. Just wanted to throw that out there in case folks felt the need to talk about Al Franken again.

So is this an example of #FauxRage from a different side of the fence? :idunno:

I hate to see Franken backing out.

Very interesting, I couldn't agree more with the second bold.

Stupid, stupid insensitive comment by Maher.

First I have heard of this (watched it on the link above and saw his apologies). I find Bill Maher completely unwatchable (just another example here that shows why) and don't follow social media the way a lot of you do.

With all that said and with my distaste with Maher...I actually believe, unlike Kathy Griffin, Maher is probably actually sorry he made the comment and his apology is at least somewhat heartfelt. Griffin planned/scripted her stunt and knew she would get backlash for it but relished it...bad publicity is better than no publicity kind of thing. Maher was just "off the cuff" (I think) and trying to be funny (which he usually isn't anyway) and I believe he probably regretted the comment as soon as he made it. Cube will scold him...Maher will sit there and take it...and they will move on.

I can't imagine what kind of discussion can come of it. It's not like Maher will try to defend his use of it seeing as he already apologized and admitted he was wrong. I'm sure he won't go groveling for absolution from Ice Cube either though. How can it be much more than, "You shouldn't have said that." "You're right it was wrong of me to say that."? The end.

Pretty much what I expect. I'd rather see Ice Cube vs Jason Whitlock than Ice Cube vs Bill Maher.
