He went to the ground on one knee before leaving the field and walking to the locker room on his own power.The Bucs punted two plays later, and Simms returned to the game when Tampa Bay got the ball back. He led a fourth-quarter field goal drive that gave the Bucs a 24-23 lead, but the defense couldn't hold.

September 25, 200620 yr As if the Bucanneers didn't already have it bad enough. The amazing thing is the number of QB's they've had come through there in the past few years, and now they're left with a rookie out of Toledo as a starter, or the absolutely terrible Tim Rattay.

September 25, 200620 yr I've been working all night and just found out about this on a replay of the 11 o'clock news. I didn't get to see the first quarter, but he didn't seem to be getting hit that often in the remaining 3 quarters. The Bucs started running the ball well for a change. He did come down awkwardly on the touchdown dive he scored on. Maybe that did it, because he seemed fine prior to that. It was hot and humid today, so I can understand how everybody thought he was cramping up and needed fluids. I liked the kid already, but the fact that he came back out and played the 4th quarter with a ruptured spleen says something about him. I know he looked down right pasty when they showed him on the side line after the last Buc field goal.
