RB's in the Mountains

Featured Replies

The "mountains" are generally considered the I75 area of Whitley, Laurel, Rockcastle and areas to the east but does include Pulaski Co./Somerset/Southwestern and maybe McCreary?

Take a drive from Somerset to London on 80 or Burnside to Corbin on 90. The biggest hill in Mercer County is on their baseball field, that is a pretty big hill but I wouldn't consider it a mountain.:p

I agree on the baseball field. Luckily they will be getting a brand new field right beside the new stadium. Yeah I used to live on 80 myself just below nancy. I know a little about the hills in Somerset.

If Harmon from Pikeville isn't the top RB in EKY this year(and he is one of the best this year imo) he will be the next 2 years...

If this kid keeps working hard and stays healthy he will be a Mr. Football candidate his SR. year.

NO JOKE!!!! :ylsuper:

Chris Maggard of North Laurel has to be in the mix right now. He is carrying the offensive load for North as well as being one of their best defenders and special teams mainstays. Since the Jags have been feeding him the ball as they primary ball carrier, he has gone over 100 yards in every game, scored a bunch of TD's and their record in that time is 3-1.

you have to mention the pair of backs from Mboro, Ford and Earls are both great backs. They both have speed, power, quickness, very good shape, experience, and they both share and both can catch and block as well as anyone!

I think that Johnson Central has a great all around backfield. They all compliment each other well and doesnt care who gets the glory. These kids take as much pride in there run blocking as they do there YPC, and anyone who has watched this team will tell you that. Shawn Grimm has put up over 1100 yds and has around 15 TD's this year but wouldnt be putting up the numbers he has if it were not for the overall balance of the running game.

Joe Roskopf of Lynn Camp high school, should be listed near the top. Close 1400 yards on the season so far.

The Campers may be down a bit this year but the Roskopf kid is the real deal. He has strapped this team to his back and carried the load. To be honest I thought even with Reynolds and Scalf last year, he was the best of that three headed monster.

In my view, Becham Herald from Breathitt is one of the best in the mountains. Also that back from Leslie. Channing Fugate is only a freshman for the bobcats but watch out for him.

Hearld appeared to impress one of the WYMT announcers when he made the statement "someone should be trying to give this young man a scholarship".

All the running backs that you have metioned have been good. Mercer Co. running backs have looked great this year , especially behind that line of theres. I remember a couple years ago South Laurel had a chance at having a great running back , but his freshman year he blew out his knee and never played again until this year. If you have kept up with South Laurel Football over the past years you probably have heard of him. Does anyone know the name Shay House?
