A still photo will tell nothing about where a pitch is located

 

Well hopefully a Zapruder film of the game will surface. Probably would be too grainy or bad angle. You will never convince everyone. On to another topic.

Can you tell, from the side, if a pitch is high or low? That's the best angle for that, right? That pitched, when asked by the coach, was called low. Now c'mon.

I'm a CCH guy and will readily admit that they got more strikes called. However, their pitcher was ahead on almost every batter and was low and outside. Other teams pitcher was behind a lot and touch wild. Pitcher throwing strikes gets more calls. Maddux made a career of it. BW pitcher also showed frustration openly. Doesn't help. Not blaming him, just saying.

Had an extensive and somewhat surprising conversation with 9th Region ump last week about his strike zone. He emphatically said the important thing was "be consistent" for both pitchers the entire game, despite the situation. Sounds good until we discussed further the width of his strike zone. In high school ball, his is just inside batter's box line to batter's box line. If it touches white, it is a ball! Now I understand why umps can drive fans (aka- parents) crazy.
