I too am tired of the so-called fair share. It seems as if the term is used, but never defined. If those who support fair share would take a look at who pays the majority of taxes, it is the top 10% of money earners and the lower 40% or so pay nothing to the feds. It seems that the top earners already pay their fair share and more.

I see what you are saying, but disagree. Using the law to your advantage, nothing wrong with that. Get the law changed if you disagree. Scamming is another matter. Trump's tax plan, as discussed in another thread, eliminates, as you call them, loopholes, more properly called tax deductions. You should get behind that plan, as it does what you want, gets rid of legal tax deductions (loopholes).

 

 

I don't expect agreement, but I understand both sides. I can never support a tax plan that slashes corporate taxes at the expense for health care for all. That is really what his tax plan does. However, as Buffett said the tax plan of the POTUS is not a problem. The cost of Health Care is the problem and there is one solution, a single provider, according to Buffett. So I am really not concerned about the taxes near as much as Health Care. Which is not a Constitutional Right, but to me is a fundamental human right in the wealthiest country in the world.

 

But back to my comparison, there is fraud, manipulation, beating the system on both ends of the spectrum and they are not different to me. They are the same and both are wrong. When people are ready to take both on then I will see fairness. Just the way I see it and probably always will.

At least the percentage of my income that I pay. I don't use loopholes, hide money in foreign entities or anything like that. I make my salary pay what the tax code says, most of them don't.

 

It seems that you hate the idea that people use legal means to lower their taxable income. Congress has created this mess over the decades and Trump's plan does what you want, get rid of most of the legal tax deductions. Hope you have the fortitude to support Trump on this one.

 

Do you dislike the tax credits that average taxpayers get for say insulating their homes or installing solar power? 40 years ago when I was farming, as a second income, I got a tax credit of $500 for buying a new pickup. Was I wrong in taking that tax credit? I don't, it was my money that I had earned, my family needed that money more than the feds did.

I don't mean deductions that we all have been taken. Never did. There are multiple ways that people cheat outside of deductions.

The problem I have with your commentary is that you are making the moral equivalent of cheating and using legal tax deductions. That is what I am saying. What is wrong with using the law to your advantage? As someone else asked of you, do you not use those tax deductions that you are allowed to use? Congress has granted the top earners more deductions than the average earner. A very good reason to simplify the tax code. Maybe you should be mad at Congress. They are the ones who created the convoluted mess that we call a tax code.

So people using legal means that were approved of by either law or regulation are cheating? How is that any different then you or me reducing our tax burden legally by itemizing deductions? At what point does it go from "deductions we have all taken" to cheating? You know that if you're really concerned about the government being better funded you don't HAVE to take any deductions? You and like people that agree with you can always pay more if you so desire.
