April 6, 20179 yr I do think Peraza will have a better season than Hamilton. If AVG and OBP are the measuring sticks, I definitely expect Peraza to be better than Hamilton.
April 6, 20179 yr Do you have a link to the stats, or can you compare them to a couple other players? Billy Hamilton, with even better speed, had a .329 batting average on balls in play and a 7.8% walk percentage. Ben Revere, with similar speed and lack of pop, had a .338 batting average on balls in play and a 5.0% walk percentage in 2015, his last decent year. Dee Gordon, off the juice last season, had a .319 batting average on balls in play and a 5.2% walk percentage. I think Peraza compares most favorable to him--off the juice.
April 6, 20179 yr Author Finnegan really settled down after the first inning. Retired the last 10. 5 on Ks.
April 6, 20179 yr @AverageJoesGym What about Jose Altuve, Jarrod Dyson, and Rajai Davis? Altuve is not really a good comparison. Peraza has never demonstrated any extrabase pop at any level. Altuve, even before he started hitting homers in 2015 hit 31, 34 and 47 doubles in his first 3 seasons in the majors. Peraza has never topped 23 doubles in any season. But Altuve, for his career, has a .334 batting average on balls in play and a 5.6% walk rate. Jarrod Dyson, who is more like Peraza, has a 8.2% walk rate and a .313 batting average on balls in play. Rajai Davis for his career has 5.7% walk rate and .315 average on balls in play.
April 6, 20179 yr @AverageJoesGym What about Jose Altuve, Jarrod Dyson, and Rajai Davis? Here's a fangraphs article that discusses his pros and cons: Everyone Is Paying Too Much for Jose Peraza | FanGraphs Fantasy Baseball It was written before Phillips was traded so those concerns are no longer valid but the rest says a lot of what I am talking about. He looks to be about a .270-.280 hitter and that translates to about a .310 OBP if he doesn't start drawing walks.
April 6, 20179 yr Finnegan really settled down after the first inning. Retired the last 10. 5 on Ks. I like Finnegan a lot.
April 6, 20179 yr This is why I want Finnegan in the rotation. Even @UKMustangFan might come around on that after a couple more strong starts.
April 6, 20179 yr That's a TERRIBLE scoring decision. Did they score that a hit? That was an error on Suarez & should've been scooped by Votto.
April 6, 20179 yr We have the closest thing in MLB to a fast pitch softball pitcher on the mound now for the Phillies - Pat Neshek. Funky.
