Simple. Illegals have large extended families that are citizens and democratic VOTERS!

If it wasn't politically positive for them in those cities, they wouldn't do it.

I believe it was on the Brian Thomas show, WKRC Cincinnati, that he stated for those who receive federal dollars, federal laws must be obeyed. Therefore, they have already agreed that they will lose federal dollars, because they have not lived up to the agreement that was made with the federal government.

I hear what you are saying but this is a little apples and oranges. Immigration Law is handled by the Federal Government Period. Marijuana Law is handled both by the Federal Government and State Governments.

 

The option here would be for the Federal Government to allow each state to decide on Immigration Law for that individual State which is not going to happen.

 

I'm a huge state's rights person, so I'd be much more comfortable with them allowing each state to make their own decisions/laws than I would be picking and choosing what Federal laws to enforce and which to ignore.

 

The interesting twist for me in this is that Republicans are pushing very hard to move things from the Federal side to the state and local side, but on this issue the Republicans want state and local government to toe the Federal immigration line and allocate state/local resources to do Federal work. It seems contradictory to me.

I suppose each President/Administration has their own ideas on what should be Federal Domain and what should be pushed down to the States which certainly makes for some interesting contradictions.

 

On Marijuana it is a "No Brainer" State issue because we are way way past the point of no return. Not to mention it is good for the local economies that have Legal Marijuana while at the same time being Illegal Federally which keeps all the large Corporations from swooping in and gobbling up all the market/profits.

 

Immigration on the other hand is a National Security Issue so Immigration either has to be Federal or it means various Immigrants will be restricted to particular States based on the law in each State which would be a quagmire.

This is what irks me. She wasn't elected to protect illegals, she was elected by legals.

National defense is one duty of the federal government that is clearly stated in the constitution.

I'm libertarian leaning like you, but under the constitution national defense is a federal job . Drugs are a different story. But you can not allow individual states have their own mandate on citizenship or immigration and be able to promise saftey. It has to be a unified system.
