Shouldn't they be arresting those city and state leaders for breaking the law?

I guess the larger question is what is the Federal Government's role when City or State Governments violate Federal law and they do it knowingly?

If the Federal government does not arrest people who breaks the laws they have on the books then they are no longer in control. So either change the laws or arrest anyone who defies the law.

I wish the Feds/President would come out stronger on this issue and tell them our first approach is going to be withholding Federal money and then for anyone that continues to break the law they will be arrested and prosecuted.

I hear what you are saying but this is a little apples and oranges. Immigration Law is handled by the Federal Government Period. Marijuana Law is handled both by the Federal Government and State Governments.

 

The option here would be for the Federal Government to allow each state to decide on Immigration Law for that individual State which is not going to happen.

I'm a huge state's rights person, so I'd be much more comfortable with them allowing each state to make their own decisions/laws than I would be picking and choosing what Federal laws to enforce and which to ignore.

I lean with you on this, but I am with @theguru on Immigration, it can not be a state's control issue.

I agree and generally believe if the Feds pushed Immigration down to the State level you would have the very safe states that have ID/Citizenship Laws where no (or very few outside of Public Safety) Government services are provided for non-legal people. In other words, in the safe states the burden is on the individual to prove they are "legal" for lack of a better description. And you would have all the crazy, dangerous, sanctuary states where everyone is welcome and the rules really don't apply.

 

In other words, we would all figure out what works and what doesn't work in very short order.

You are off on tangent. I am saying we all get Police Protection and Emergency Medical Treatment and if anyone wants/expects anything more they have to follow all the rules.
