March 29, 20179 yr So...You want a college where every single professor and every single student thinks exactly the same? Is the professor justified in grading him lower because of his beliefs?
March 29, 20179 yr I am not seeing where he or anyone said that. I'm assuming what he wants, and what I want, are professors that don't bring their personal beliefs or bias into grading my paper. If I have given a very well thought out and well researched paper, I should be negatively graded because I was "too conservative" or vice versa. That's crap. Thankfully, I didn't really feel that while at NKU. I think it depends on the assignment. If one was assigned to present a nonpartisan, or unbiased assessment of an issue, then there can be cause for a lower grade, if it didn't meet the assignment criteria. If the professor is to keep their politics out of the grading, then the student should keep their politics out of completing their assignments.

March 29, 20179 yr Look at the people on BGP who have no issue sharing links as fast as they find them, using them as justification for their opinion, and they never bothered to investigate the site/authors for legitimacy. WE do that. It is on US to share the right info. I don't disagree with you at all. But if it was as simple as saying that "we are the problem", then what is the point of the thread or the discussion? Either way, social media has played a major factor in creating a problem that needs fixed.
March 29, 20179 yr So...You want a college where every single professor and every single student thinks exactly the same? Nope. Just want ones that don't give you a lesser grade because you don't think like them.
March 29, 20179 yr It's always on all of us. Doesn't mean that social media hasn't played a large role as the avenue for our problem. Social media is a tool. It can be used for good or carelessly. Doesn't mean social media is bad.

I don't think social media has anything to do with it. I was an adult before social media, and people believed the National Enquirer and such were gospel truth. We are a weird bunch, we humans.

I'll give @capt278 the benefit of the doubt that he/she wasn't supposed to write a paper that was nonpartisan or unbiased on that assignment. Maybe I'll be proved wrong. March 29, 20179 yr I don't think we have a problem that needs to be fixed by anyone but ourselves. I don't think social media has anything to do with it. I was an adult before social media, and people believed the National Enquirer and such were gospel truth. We are a weird bunch, we humans. My opinion is that social media has everything to do with it and is drastically affecting younger generations and how they get their news. Heck, it's the only way that the vast majority of millennials get their news. Should they do their due diligence and research topics more? Absolutely, but the vast majority don't. Which means that social media is a major player here. Social media isn't the problem, we are the problem but it should definitely be part of this conversation.
March 29, 20179 yr Of course. Of course what? I don't know anything about him or her. I find it far more likely that a liberal professor would make a comment on a paper and grade someone worse because it was "too conservative" than saying the student completely went against the assignment. I've had those types of professors, where if you have a different viewpoint than what they are preaching, you just kind keep your opinion to yourself and get through the class the best you can to get your grade you want.
March 29, 20179 yr Social media is a tool. It can be used for good or carelessly. Doesn't mean social media is bad. Missing where I called it bad? I called it an avenue. Tool, avenue, mechanism or whatever other word you want to use, I never called it bad. I said that it is being used in a way that is increasing the problem that the opening post said needed fixed.

Or you can find a new teacher or new school or like you said you can suck it up.

I said that it is being used in a way that is increasing the problem that the opening post said needed fixed. Maybe this will clarify my position:. We are not broke. Media is not broke. Nothing needs to be fixed. We just need to be responsible in consumption and deciminating information. We need to be critical thinkers and careful heralders.
March 29, 20179 yr We need to be critical thinkers and careful heralders. Agreed, but that's utopia and just isn't going to happen.
