If you told many people before the season this would be a 1-4 team vs. a 4-1 team they would have beleived you... just wouldn't beleive who has which record....

Good point but didn't I have Dayton pegged to start the season 5-0? Okay maybe that was more likely to be 4-1 in reality but they came within 13 points of making it true.

Thought NCC would be likely be 3-2 at this point with losses to CovCath and either Ryle or Belfry but not both. Anyway NCC may have peaked in the first scrimmage game against Simon Kenton when they put up 26 points in three quarters. It has pretty much been downhill since then especially on offense.

As for the Dayton/NCC match-up one unfortunate thing for the Devils is that they were thumping Lloyd on a night NCC was not playing. So the NCC coaching staff and players got a look at Dayton taking it to a team so they should know they will have to play well especially since the game is at Dayton.

One big question is can NCC contain Dayton QB Hightchew on the ground and in the air? They faced a similar threat QB in Newport's Hesch and got a shutout so they at least have that experience.

On offense for NCC I got to think this week might be "all in" for the shotgun, no huddle, four wides. If it doesn't work early against Dayton and the INTs are pilling up, look for 3 yards and a cloud if dust to be resurrected.

Special teams/field position could be huge advantage for NCC if Dayton continues to kick as they did against Lloyd. Lloyd never started at worse than the 41 yard line after kickoffs. That could be a major problem because if NCC is intent on pounding the ball they would be one first down way from four down territory with that field position.

The key to the HC victory over NCC was there ability to stop Vicars. If Dayton can do that they will have the same shot at turnovers as HC, but if NCC can establish the run look for the pass attempts to be down and fewer shots at turnovers. NCC's defense is very good Dayton needs a couple of short fields to have a chance.

Good luck to both

I would expect the 1-4 NCC team to get a whole lot better against the 4-1 Greendevils..I will say somewhere in the neighborhood of 48-7 in favor of NCC.

The New Cath boys get well this week 55-7

I just dont see Dayton being able to move the ball and score on NCC no matter how bad they may be.

NCC 28

Dayton 0

While I'd like Dayton's Cinderella story to go a little longer, I believe NCC will win this game, but I think it will be closer than some are predicting. Steve has done a great job at Dayton and I hope the community is coming out to support the team. Regardless of where this game is played, it would be great if the civic, school and business leaders in Dayton made a concerted effort to get the people of Dayton to turn out and cheer on their boys. Like both teams, but pulling for the underdog in this one. Go Green Devils.

I'm with you LN, I will be pulling for the Devils as well. The major concern that I have is no secret, depth. Even though NCC has taken some lumps they are two and three deep at some positions. Hopefully Dayton still has the first quarter fire in the fourth. If thats the case look for hells half acre to be rockin!!!

I also understand Dayton has a couple of injured players. I heard Massey is out with a possible ACL injury and Chris YOung is nursing an injury. These are two key players, one of which I would assume does not play in this game. Depth is a key factor but "will and determination" will be key factors in whether the Greendevils show up and make this a good game or if they lay down and let the more talented Breds roll.

I think NCC rebounds from the loss to HC and wins 35-14.

Newport Catholic 28-7.

The key to HC's victory was NCC,s mistakes. If NCC stops the mistakes they are one of the teams to beat.It will come down to NCC and Beechwood again.

Just maybe... Holy Cross may have caused some of these mistakes with good play of their own... maybe...

Being a Bellevue guy this is hard for me to do, but I will pick the Greendevils to win this one. I have had the opportunity to see both teams play, I think Dayton will be more prepared to win this and will be more physical during this game. Coach Lickert will go in with the best game plan he can and the Devils will execute efficiently.

You think that Dayton will put up 26 pts against NewCath? Unless they have Scotty Gray playing for them, or Sutton and Bovard catching passes I don't see it happening. Dayton could win, I don't know, but they will have to hold NewCath under 10 pts. b/c NewCath will not give up more than 10 against Dayton.
