February 12, 20179 yr Wonder if the Mets will use the same approach with Jay Bruce, who also has a huge contract and who also no one seems to want. Bruce's situation in NY isn't comparable.
February 12, 20179 yr Phillips was blocking the future second baseman of the Reds. He no longer had any value to the Reds and was actually hurting the team by sticking around.
February 13, 20179 yr Reds will miss the defense Phillips provided. His offense was declining some the last couple of years, but overall he was still solid and played despite nagging injuries that I am not sure some of these young guys will do. I predict, this will turn out to be a mistake.

Well, I don't know if I would go that far. If he were going to be that productive, the Reds would be better off to keep him and trade him in mid-season. Someone would at least pick up more of the salary in that case. As to comments above by others about whether other teams had interest in Phillips, I doubt the Reds even talked to that many other teams considering Phillips has a full no trade clause and Atlanta is one of the few cities he would consider going to.
February 13, 20179 yr Braves possibly blocked Albies and maybe finish a spot or 2 better and get a slightly lesser draft pick. Unless they bench or waive him in June.
February 13, 20179 yr Braves possibly blocked Albies and maybe finish a spot or 2 better and get a slightly lesser draft pick. Unless they bench or waive him in June. Albies is 19...there is no reason to rush him. Correction, he is 20.
February 13, 20179 yr Albies is 19...there is no reason to rush him. Correction, he is 20. He's already played in AA and AAA, he's coming sooner rather than later.
February 14, 20179 yr He's already played in AA and AAA, he's coming sooner rather than later. Phillips will only be in Atlanta this year. His no trade clause is limited now, so if the Braves are out and he's playing decent they can move him at the deadline.
February 14, 20179 yr Pretty consistent from women in the office and mine at home, "This just sucks. He always seems to be smiling and having fun". From my buddies, 13 year old daughter, "Oh great, we are gonna suck now". Uhhhh we sucked with him.
