February 8, 20179 yr Author Ted Cruz who is a good debater with facts debated an old man who was happy to promote socialism. That is the best description I can give. Ted brought actual facts and Sanders brought emotion without fact. It was a fundamental dismantling.

The premise of his argument was government has failed you so more government is the answer. It did not take an Ivy league debate champion like Cruz to win tonight . I 100% respected how Cruz had note cards with facts and statistics he would walk back to every time Sanders made an outrageous claim. Debate 101 be prepared for the counter punch.

The basic argument I will define but I will say I don't know if I agree with the exact number in this example. The argument for, eliminate all loop holes and a lot of regulations and every one pays an equal percentage of income in tax. The argument against it, it isn't fair for me to pay the same percentage of my salary as someone who makes more money. As a libertarian I do not think my success should define what percentage of my salary I should have to pay. As my income and success increases, my raw dollar amount of tax I pay increases. What percentage I pay is irrelevant to anyone else.
February 8, 20179 yr I agree. I don't think just cause someone makes more money means they should pay a different percentage. They are by default paying more taxes becuase of their income. I also don't know if 10% is the right number.

I also don't know if 10% is the right number. I would be all for a flat additional 10% tax on all purchases, but not a 10% payroll tax.
February 8, 20179 yr I did not watch this but as I have said for some time, as cooky and out there as Cruz is, dude is a masterful politician. The campaign is over. Both need to get back to work.

The last good article I read on the topic said that our "Grey Economy" which is everything from drug sales, to illegal citizens working off the books, to legal citizens collecting an unemployment check or other government check working off the books, to farm employees who often work for cash, to anybody that works for just cash, etc is somewhere near 4 trillion dollars a year. If you go to a sales tax, it doesn't matter where they get their money from, it all gets taxed when it is spent. That said, I would definitely be in favor of some sort of prebate system to help people at the lower income levels. I do think we are probably looking at the 12-15% neighborhood though, it would also be easy to add a % or 2 to super luxury items.
