I would not have thought their stats were that comparable.

I would love to see the comparison of stats between them against teams with winning records, prime time games and playoff games. We all know Dalton can put up numbers at 1 o'clock against bad to average teams. That has not been the problem. However his lack of playing well against good teams, especially prime time games. Is one of the reasons why they can't get playoff byes and or win playoff games.

Dalton his first 4 playoff games has 1 td pass and 6 interceptions, and a 55% completion percentage and 2 fumbles lost. Ryan in his first 4 playoff games had 6 td passes, 5 interceptions, and a completion percentage of 65%. Ryan then also had 3 td passes in his 5th playoff game in the nfc championship game that they ended up losing to the 49ers.

Ryan no doubt hasnt tore it up in the playoffs either. However even before this year, he was at least doing something and scoring some points in those games besides 1. It's not like in a lot of the prime time games and playoff games that Dalton has played in that he played well and gave the team a chance to win but other areas failed. In these prime time games and playoff games Dalton usually has done nothing to help the team, and then if the defense also let's down that day then we have no chance. If Dalton would have done something at all in a lot of those losses, then he probably wouldn't be looked at as bad by many. Matt Ryan overall had a bad playoff track record too going into this year. However he also has led his team to first round byes 3 times, and even in losses didn't look nearly as bad as Dalton in playoff games.

Dalton seriously is frustrating because he really does look the part against bad and average teams and where most of his numbers come from. It's a different story against good teams.

Not the Super Bowl that's almost a certainty. That team is so far from being a contender for the title it's not even funny.

Ryan has 3 Playoff wins. That is 3 times as many as Dalton.

Ryan also didn't have as much talent around him through most of his years. Dalton was said to have on multiple years the most talented team in the NFL by many of the so called NFL Gurus.

Not the worlds biggest Dalton fan either. However, if he doesn't have the thumb injury that team would have won atleast two playoff games. They were stacked on both sides of the ball.

Ryan was not surrounded by the talent Dalton was until very recently and one acquisition is Sanu that played for the Bengals.

Impossible to tell. 2015 Dalton played great but during that 2015 run they lost to the good teams they played. Seattle was the only good team that they won that he played well. They played Arizona on Sunday night football and lost. They played Houston also on Sunday night football where Dalton played a horrible game and they lost.

As good as Dalton was in 2015, it was the same story. When they played good teams or in prime time he and the team lost.

There is not much evidence at all to believe even with Dalton they go into Denver on a Monday night and beat Denver. Which means they still have to play the Steelers in the first round. Which Dalton's track record against the Steelers is not good. He has only scored more than 20 twice in his career against them and has only beaten them 3 times. Which in 2 of those 3 wins they only scored 16 points. Meaning he and the offense didn't do well in those wins even though the Steelers defense was suppose to be bad.

As much as we can think with Dalton the result would have been different. To try to make us feel better for another heartbreaking end. There is zero reason took believe we do much even with him. A playoff game under the lights in pouring down rain against the Steelers doesn't exactly say a winning game with Dalton's track record.

Well the Bengals have Marvin Lewis so that's strike 1,2, and 3.

Confused by the posts saying Ryan didn't have the talent Dalton did/does. Might not be apples to apples but come on, you guys are acting like Atlanta was playing with no talent.

Drafted Julio in 2011

Had Tony Gonzales from 2009 - 2013

Roddy White upto 2015

Michael Turner at RB

I dont believe this, I think they still would have lost their first playoff game.

So the 1-4 in his first 6 years of playoff victories is wrong for Ryan? That should be edited because that is huge.

Does that mean if Ryan has a much better record against winning teams and prime time games, he sucks in games he should be winning against losing teams. If winning % and stats go up against good teams, that means they drop against bad teams. That would be a problem also.

Very true. That is why Dalton is so frustrating to me lol. Which it also puts the Bengals in almost an impossible situation. Dalton beats those bad and average teams pretty regularly, and that usually will get what we got and that is making or having a chance to make the playoffs almost each year. So on that note the Bengals would be crazy to get rid of a guy that consistently beats the bad to average teams and gives you a chance to make the playoffs basically every year.

On the other hand there is 6 years of proof also on Dalton showing he doesn't perform well against good teams, in prime time games, playoff games, etc. So on that note if you have a QB who doesn't do well in those situations, its also crazy to keep trying the same thing and hoping for a different result. When the ultimate goal is to win a super bowl.

I was one of the biggest Dalton supporters on this site his first 4 years, and me and Hellbird got in many arguments over him. However after 6 years the book has been pretty much the same on Dalton. Dalton needs basically everything around him to go well for him to do well in big games. Which is a problem because when you face other good teams, the other teams are going to make plays. In Dalton's case he is not the type of QB that can pick the team up and make a play to change the momentum when other things are going bad. It usually is the reverse, when other things go bad he also goes bad.

So if the Bengals get rid of Dalton, and McCarron fails. The Bengals are dumb for getting rid of a QB they win games with. If the Bengals keep Dalton and keep getting the same results, then they are dumb for keeping the same. That is why I say the Bengals are in a impossible spot with him. That is why for me I am willing to take that risk an go with McCarron and hope he does that the make up to help the team out more in those big games. He could fall flat on his face, but I am willing to take that chance. From a business perspective though, I see why the Bengals coaches and management wouldn't be willing to take that same chance though even if they do have confidence and believe he has "It" as Marvin Lewis even said about him.
