January 31, 20179 yr Trump fires acting AG Sally Yates after she declines to defend travel ban - CNNPolitics.com Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump fired acting Attorney General Sally Yates Monday night for "refusing to enforce a legal order designed to protect the citizens of the United States," the White House said. "(Yates) has betrayed the Department of Justice," the White House statement said. Dana Boente, US attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, the White House said, and was sworn in at 9 p.m. ET, per an administration official. Trump didn't call Yates to dismiss her, she was informed by hand-delivered letter, according to a different administration official.
January 31, 20179 yr Made for an exciting Monday night. I do not like executive orders. Too easy to reverse. Now the House and Senate need to get back to their jobs and get us a Cabinet approved and sworn in. Should make for a busy news week.
January 31, 20179 yr Not a smart move on her part, unless she was wanting to be removed from office early.
January 31, 20179 yr She knew she was a temp. She stood up for her principles. She paid the price. Trump was well within his rights to find someone else.
January 31, 20179 yr She knew she was a temp. She stood up for her principles. She paid the price. Trump was well within his rights to find someone else. Pretty much. This should be a non-story, but it won't be.
January 31, 20179 yr It does bring up an interesting question. Should the AG go along with the POTUS or should the AG go along with the law when it conflicts with the POTUS?
January 31, 20179 yr It does bring up an interesting question. Should the AG go along with the POTUS or should the AG go along with the law when it conflicts with the POTUS? Good point to ponder.
January 31, 20179 yr The new AG , once confirmed (maybe he has already been confirmed?) will be Jeff Sessions. In 2015 then Sen Sessions told Yates that he hoped she would have the courage to say "no" to a POTUS if she felt the order was unlawful. Will this firing lessen the chances of AG Sessions saying "no?"
January 31, 20179 yr It does bring up an interesting question. Should the AG go along with the POTUS or should the AG go along with the law when it conflicts with the POTUS? Good question, ask loretta lynch for confirmation on that. What Trump is doing is not against the law. It's been done by numerous presidents. Challenging it is dangerous and sets a scary precedent. There has always been a pacifist portion of society that don't have the kahunas to even protect theirselves. They think anything done to protect the country is just mean. Tough decisions need to be made.

But..this isn't the thread to debate what we've debated for days. That's in another thread. This thread is about the firing and/or the role/responsibility of the AG.
January 31, 20179 yr It does bring up an interesting question. Should the AG go along with the POTUS or should the AG go along with the law when it conflicts with the POTUS? How does the law conflict with him?
January 31, 20179 yr It does bring up an interesting question. Should the AG go along with the POTUS or should the AG go along with the law when it conflicts with the POTUS? I would hope the AG would go along with the law and the Constitution over the President.
