January 31, 20179 yr The AG is to be the legal counsel of the President. Was she even asked legal advice? Her oath is to the Constitution and not the Prez. For clarification purposes, the AG is not legal counselor to the president. That task belongs to the White House Counsel's Office.
January 31, 20179 yr I am willing to bet that all of the White House lawyers know if something is illegal or not and would tell Trump if so. So Im sure he didnt do anything against the law and its her duty to uphold the law, regardless of her convictions. Did Trump break the law or just go against her ideas?

So Im sure he didnt do anything against the law and its her duty to uphold the law, regardless of her convictions. Did Trump break the law or just go against her ideas? Could be both. Could be perfectly legal in most respects but have unintended consequences that violate different laws. Most of the judges that issued restraining orders against the executive order cited the difficulties it places on those holding visas and were in transit at the time of signing. It'll get sorted out but the law doesn't move at the speed of 24-hours news.
January 31, 20179 yr Is it always honorable to be silent or to take a stand if you think something is not legal? It is always honorable to take a stand if you think you have been asked to do something unethical or illegal, and if you read my previous post carefully, you will see that I addressed that scenario. What Sally Yates did was not honorable or ethical. Not only did she refuse to obey the president's orders, she ordered her subordinates to disobey the order. The honorable thing to have done would have been to resign. Once Yates became a former acting Attorney General, then she could have taken a public stand, unless doing so would have violated any agreements that she signed at the time she was appointed by former President Obama.
February 1, 20179 yr I agree. But rather then the political posturing, she should have just resigned. Curious that she didn't have the same reservations about Obama's actions on Cubans? There is a difference in what President Trump has enacted and what former President Obama did. Cubans who reached the US land (literally, land), were given special status and path to immigration. If discovered at sea, they would be turned back. Former President Obama's order put an end to the special status and path, and Cuban immigrants now all follow the normall path to immigration and residency. I've only had the chance to speak to a few of my Cuban friends, but they weren't too upset. They said that this was the fairest anyway.
February 1, 20179 yr I have read that Obama had a very similar ban a few years ago for Iraq...for six months I believe. Is what Trump did any different? Other than adding some other countries. If it is pretty much the same, why did she not object then? I am just asking for clarification case because I am not sure if what Obama did regarding Iraq is different in some way...
