According to a sports page co-run by Ray's uncle, David Jones, Horton has made his college decision and will play for EKU Colonels.

Belfry's Studd defensive lineman Rayquan Horton chose to play his college ball at Eastern Kentucky University. He turned down a last minute effort by Minnesota and was entertaining going to WKU and Cincinnati as well. Horton earned All-State honors and many around the state thought Horton was the best D-lineman in the state. People thought for years he would of ended up following his uncle David Jones footsteps, and attend Kentucky, but Mark Stoops decision not to offer the best D-lineman in the state, left many scratching their heads. I'm sure he can start and bring a lot to the Colonels next season, people in Richmond are getting a monster that is going to create havoc in the OVC next year.

I see no way that he doesn't eventually become a stud in the OVC. For my money he's the best DL KY has produced in a long time.

I said it before....there are going to be schools look at him in 2-3 years with much regret they did not go get him.

I would have liked to see UK or UL offer Ray too, but it's not ridiculous. He had some FBS offers, but made the choice he thought was best for him.

I'll say this if Horton was from Ohio or Florida, UK and U of L would have had more interest. They'll take a shorter guy from there and pass on the KY kid.

 

Not hating, but they've brought in plenty of guys that don't have SEC size the last few years defensively. He's short, but that's not always the kiss of death for an defensive interior lineman.

This just isn't true. Since 2014, which is as far back as I looked, UK hasn't signed a D-Lineman under 6'3. The vast majority of them were at least 6'4.

Not just DL. Everywhere. Remember they play LBs as DEs too in their package. Go watch UK live. They don't look like the teams they line up against.

Adding in the OLBs only Denzil Ware is below 6'3 (he's 6'2). With the vast majority being 6'4+. Which is irrelevant because Horton isn't a OLB prospect.

Kentucky not offering had nothing to do with where Horton is from. He just doesn't have the height they want. I think the data shows that.

Would have liked to have seen him at Cincy but congrats to him. Well deserved.
