KHSAA Approves Pilot Program and Realignment for 15th Region in 2017-18

Featured Replies

An actual coach just had a great point on Facebook...this will be like football when a helpless low seed has to travel 2-3 hours to get dismantled.

How many teams have 2-3hour trips in the 15th Region?

This is the product of a people continually making bad/political hires in basketball.

They aren't confident in the hires they make so they change the rules so everyone makes the tournament.

East Ridge, Phelps, and Jenkins going to Lawrence or Magoffin would be a right at a couple of hours.

It's one heck of a drive from Jenkins to Salyersville.

In a school bus?

This would help districts with three strong teams, such as the 37th in the 10th Region. In this district many times Brossart, Campbell County and Scott have "regional worthy" teams that don't make the regional tournament.

A year ago Brossart came within an overtime loss to Scott of making the regional tournament. They had beaten district rival Campbell County, and Mason County, the 39th District Champ who became the regional champ handily during the regular season, yet didn't make the regional tournament where they would have competed for the 10th Region crown.

In this format, even though they would have been a 3 seed, they would have at least had the chance to play for the regional championship, and not sidelined for the simply matter that they had the misfortune of being aligned in a strong district with three strong teams.

I fully agree have not heard this argument for it. Same with the 40th District this year, and the 39th last year.

In a school bus?

No.

2 hour minimum

They are losing Jenkins next season

Jenkins is probably closer to more 15th region teams than they are to 14th region teams. So it may not be a bad thing for them to move to the 15th.

From a financial and competitive perspective, this is a great move for Jenkins.

Its farther from Jenkins to Irvine and Stanton in the 14th. 135 miles to Irvine (2:34 min drive) and 116 miles to Stanton (2:11 min drive).

They're better off in the 15th distance speaking.

I am not sure I am following you on this.

In a school bus?

That wasn't an option! The choices were driving, flying, or walking. No flights between the two unfortunately! :lol2:

I'm as much as a traditionalist as anyone, but I kind of like this new format. For one thing if a district is loaded with 3 or 4 good teams it doesn't penalize the teams for being in a strong district from making it to the region. I know many years the 54th has been really good in the 14th with Perry, Hazard, Leslie, and Buckhorn having good teams but only 2 could make it. Hazard got knocked out on a last second play last year in the first round of district.

As long as they keep the district tournaments and use them as stated in their plans I think it's okay. We can still have our district games, all usually rivalries, and districts that seed will be fine because seeding determines the tournament bracket. Therefore the district games during the season still have meaning and purpose.

So why does Jenkins go to Owsley Co., Leslie Co., Rose Hill which are 1.5-2.5 hours away(non-bus) among other games, over an hour away, during the regular season if they're just gonna lose? Also if the 15th Region remains at the Expo center, that not too far of a drive for Jenkins,East Ridge or Phelps is it?
