Open Job: McCracken County

Featured Replies

He's going to Camden County. That's on the coast near Savannah and they play really good football. You leave for that job every time. They have a 10,000 sq ft weight room if that tells you anything.

McCracken HC makes $13,500. Outside of a coordinator I doubt assistants at North Gwinnett are pulling down that much.

You might be surprised how much football coaches make in Georgia

No, I've got a pretty good handle on what they make.

I am not surprised by this at all. Nearly happened last season.

At first I wanted to pounce on the situation and say something along the lines of "he was never invested", "Bobby Petrino flys to Auburn Take 2", and the like, BUT after reading this:

"There's a great children's hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, and my son is going to need more surgery and that national children's hospital will be just 30 minutes away," Jackson said. "It makes that rough situation a little bit easier for us coming up."

That is simply unjustified. Whether you have kids or not, you can not fault a man for doing what is best for his family and in this situation for his child who needs specialized care.

As for McCracken County, how now brown cow???

MANY good things going right for you right now with facilities and all. Countered with the Beasts in Jefferson County always lurking in the playoffs. But you will still be the favorite in the district next year regardless of who takes over.

BUT it will be a timely hire from the standpoint, the program is at a level now to take a step up (up to be able to consistently win the district AND win a first round game - That means beating the likes of Manual and/or PRP) OR just languishing in mediocrity and being 7 and 4 forever and having zero playoff success.

Who are potential candidates?

I'm pretty sure playoff districts rotate in 6A and in the 2015-2016 season they made a Regional Championship appearance losing 7-3 to Central Hardin. So playoff games have been won at McCraken County. Yes the Metro schools are always waiting but there are opportunities to advance in the playoffs when the rotation is in your favor.

But if it takes a fortunate draw to have postseason success is your program really growing or are you just in the right place at the right time?

If you are saying that struggling to beat the Metro schools means your program isn't growing then I guess a vast majority of 6A needs to find new coaches because teams outside of Louisville winning State Championships isn't exactly happening very often.

One thing is for sure. McCracken just hired an achieved girls soccer coach from Texas, a good boys soccer coach from Texas that just won a regional championship, a wrestling coach from Texas that seems to be getting the wrestling program in the right direction, and Jackson came from Georgia. All that to say that McCracken has shown they're looking nationally for their coaches and I'd be shocked if their next head coach is from anywhere around here. Their track record is looking for proven coaches from other states.

The head coach at North Gwinett pulls down over $100,000 and doesn't teach. Jackson is about to get a big pay raise and a football centric daytime schedule.

I don't think he's saying that at all. As a matter of fact, I know he isn't. It's no secret the hurdles that are 6A..that's all...at least that's how I took it. Timing is everything. If you have the best group of kids to ever come through that school and you are matched up with like schools (i.e: District 2 as your region) then you have a legit shot to win a region title. If not? Well, we all know how that ends, and that ceiling 99.9% of the time is the 2nd round at best.

That sounds crazy to pay a high school coach that much. Let's see, if their stadium holds 10,000 and they charge 5 bucks a head to get in and sell out they make at least 50,000 per home game. Seven home games equals $350,000. You have to pay for that stadium and the facilities and equipment, etc, but with those numbers I can see a coach in a program like that making big bucks. What do the head coaches in Cincinnati's GCL programs make?

The north and the south are 2 different animals.

Yep. The D.C. at North Gwinnett I'm hearing is rumored to get the job or at least in strong consideration and as the D.C. his classroom duties are DONE by 10 am everyday.
