Honestly, the bolded is in fact an opinion. Whether it be yours, the pollsters, etc, its all based on someone's opinion. People get things wrong sometimes and in this case, I think most would agree that the BiG wasn't as good as advertised.

So you do agree that it was opinion? Earlier you stated it as a fact. What I'm trying to help you realize is that you had the opinion that the BiG was the best conference due to listening to the talking heads that get paid to give us all their opinion. Nothing wrong with you believing what you hear.

 

But basically, the fact that the pollsters and committee are the only thing that matters as far as the current playoff goes really throws a left handed monkey wrench in them actually getting things right. Too many politics and pre and early season rankings involved to really figure out which teams are playing the best football at the end of the season. Not only does it screw up the playoff, it affects all of the other bowl games as well.

 

There is no simple solution though, other to expand the playoff so the talking heads that decide whos in it have less of a chance to screw it up.

I have not read the entire thread but as an OSU fan, I will say this bowl season has been a disaster for the Big Ten...and for the best division in the country (per the rankings) to go o-fer in the bowls is really bad.

12. Ok State lost to OU who OSU dominated

13. Louisville looked awful at the end of the year no denying that

14. Auburn got dominated by Oklahoma who OSU dominated

15. Western Michigan got dominated physically by Wisconsin who OSU beat

16. West Virginia got destroyed by OU who OSU dominated

17. Florida their offense was even worse than OSU

18. Stanford was playing pretty well at the end of the year too so you can claim them if you want but I don't consider them on an equal playing field this year

19. Utah lucky to beat Indiana

20. LSU worse offense than OSU and lost to Wisconsin who OSU beat

 

So you got 1 out of 11-20.

I can give you the same speil about Michigan and Wisconsin and with Michigan they destroyed the "only true top 10 team from the Big 10" by 39 points. OSU got their butts handed to them by Clemson. Clemson was the better team and if they play 10 times Clemson wins probably 7 of them. But this doesn't mean that you just jump a bunch of teams ahead of OSU that have no claim to being top 20 much less top 10. You can blame OSU on college football being down this year. Hell, even Alabama and Clemson are not near as good as they were last year. The level of play in college football this year was not good. OSU was definitely not immune to that. I could type 2 pages of who beat who to show that OSU or Michigan or Wisconsin or Penn St shouldn't be in the top ten. Doesn't mean it would be a good argument. And who in the hell said anything about OSU not being a top 20 team. Your entire argument for OSU is the win over OU. That's it, that's all you got. Seriously go look at the 11-20 break down you made.
