January 4, 20179 yr Annual post-Christmas Tolkien binge. Starting with Fellowship of the Ring but instead of going through the trilogy, I'm going to move on to Children of Hurin since I did The Silmarillion in 2016.
January 5, 20179 yr Based on a strong recommendation by MTGL I started the Louise Penny Garmache series with "Still Life." A different style of "whodunit." Almost has an old Agatha Christie feel to it with the addition of a lot of character development. MTGL says this is the worst of the series and I enjoy this one so...
January 6, 20179 yr "Bad Sports: How Owners Are Ruining the Games We Love" by Dave Zirin Read this one when it first came out. Giving it another one to resolve my currently conflicted feelings of a partially-publicly-funded soccer stadium here in Louisville. Hoping I won't be confused after this. No public money for stadiums... not even Louisville City FC.
January 7, 20179 yr That book was great. It was. I have a history degree and teach history and it was full of stuff I'd never read, studied, etc. European involvement is always just glossed over in the Civil War but it's a huge part.
