In the late 1970's, when Lincoln County High School was formed from the merger of the county's various high schools, LC and Whitley County were in the same AAA sub-district. They played 6 straight seasons from 1975 through 1980 before not scheduling each other again until 2005 when they were placed in the same AAAA district. Lincoln County leads the 7 game series 4 games to 3.

Lincoln County is 2-1 on the season with wins against Garrard County (41-0) and Rockcastle County (21-18) and a loss to Pleasure Ridge Park (30-13). LC is averaging 25 points per game and is giving up an average of 16 ppg.

 

Whitley County is 1-3 thus far with a win against Lynn Camp (49-20) and losses to Bell County (24-20), North Hardin (40-6) and Shelby County (48-12). WC is averaging just over 21 points a game on offense, while giving up an average of 33 points per game.

Anytime you can beat Rockcastle it is a good win, but that coupled with a 2-0 win over corbin, and Rock may be a bit over rated.

I am not telling Whitley anything, only stating my opinion, remember good teams find ways to win those one and two point games, and a loss is still a loss whether by 1 or 100. Whitley is not a very good football team, but like Corbin they do play well at home, and like Corbin they appear to trying to find their identity.

This is a huge game for Whitley. If they can win this one, I believe that it tells the players that they can be one of the teams to beat in the district this year. Lose and they may be battling to the final week again trying to secure a playoff spot. Whitley in the upset.

They maintained half of that backfield last year. Trent Calhoun suffered a season-ending injury in the second game of the season last year, a 35-13 victory over Garrard County. This year's Patriot squad is a much better team.

I'm going to go with Lincoln in this one. Whitley wore us down and put 3 VERY late TD's on a tired 1A school. (It was still a close game 1/2 through the 4th qtr.) This is a very good 4A squad coming in. They won't tire out and they will beat Whitley. Whitley has a rough road to hoe, and I see a very real chance of maybe only 2 more wins for the Colonels.(NL/Clark, and I don't know what Clark has right now.)

My apologies! When its not your team, the names tend to run together! I was debating which one is was and guessed on Calhoun. Either way, it was a tough loss for Lincoln.
