How about the Frederick Douglass Freedom?

Is Bracken County going to have to change from "Polar Bears" because it is seen as white supremacy? Does this school also have gender-neutral bathrooms and safe spaces?

This is how Fayette county has operated in every aspect for the last 25 years or so. Its par for the course.

Here is some info...how many schools existed with "male form" mascots, because at the time females weren't part of the schools athletic picture? I mean look at how recent some of these dates are.

1992-Girls Soccer was recognized (Boys '72)

1995-Softball was recognized

1975-Girls Basketball recognized

1960-Girls Tennis

1962-Girls Swimming

1965-Girls Golf

A Stallion by definition is an uncastrated adult male horse. The issue is what they will call the female teams at the school. They can't really be the Lady Stallions.

Someone on Twitter said the "Freedom Riders" which somewhat works with the horse mascot they are going to keep.

So, all of you decrying FCPS "giving in" would be okay with the boys teams being called the "Fillies" or the "Mares"??? I don't see a problem with a new school actually wanting to have a mascot they feel can represent more of the student body.

 

The Freedom or Liberty are an interesting choice, though it might not go with the color scheme - and it sounds a little like an MLS team. Maybe the Travelers - to represent Douglass's flight to freedom? Of course, the Demons has the advantage of being unique, sounding awesome, and being historically appropriate. None of those are horse themes, though.

They said they were going to let students vote on a horse-themed mascot...so I was kind of assuming we wouldn't see anything new develop on this until the summer, seeing as their student body is currently attending other schools.

IMO....they should stick with Stallions for the boys.....Fillies for the girls. Way too much political correctness.

My vote would be the Ponies and the girls teams would be called the My little Ponies
