Chicago's Police Chief in a Load of Trouble

Featured Replies

I think Chicago shows that the issue is very complicated - for both sides.

Chicago has proven that the city's gun laws are irrelevant because a)criminals will find guns and b)it's easy to go to Indiana to buy guns.

If you believe gun laws are necessary it has to be at a national level before anyone can decide if they truly work.

Imagine that...the criminals using guns to shoot people won't abide by the tough gun laws...this is just shocking news...

The fact that what he said is not just considered common sense is staggering. The fact that Rahm and the boys in Chicago are probably really mad at him for stating the obvious is unfortunately not a bit staggering...

Yep. Civic gun laws are irrelevant in a country with open borders between states, to say nothing of the openness of a county line.

Agree on all counts.

One could also make the argument by your post that this is the reason strict gun laws will never work. There will never be enough support nationwide for a constitutional ammendment to ban gun ownership nationwide. Therefore all these strict gun laws do is leave law abiding citizens defenseless in a war zone.

You are correct.

We have plenty of National Laws that seem to be irrelevant as well (see Drug Laws for one example). This isn't a GUN issue it is a People and Crime Issue, always has been and always will be. We need stronger laws to deal with law breakers not more laws on the only people that will follow them...people like you and me.

Chicago is a city with major problems. Steps will have to be taken eventually that many citizens won't be happy with.

Would be great if this was a gun issue, but its not.

We've never had serious gun laws in this country and we never will. It's just not a subject that interests me in the current political climate.

What would "Serious" gun laws look like to you?

I'm talking about Laws that would impact the senseless killings in our inner cities, not just feel good laws that will have no impact on criminals.

I'm talking about bans. Heavy restriction on not only purchase but on ownership and manufacture. Laws that actually control guns.

Like I said, it isn't happening in this country so the subject just doesn't interest me anymore.

I'm moving on to other solutions, ineffective or slow as they may be.

Curious--Do you really feel if the US "banned" gun ownership that all these thugs will just give up their weapons??
