Holmes vs Conner predictions

Featured Replies

Good points all. I've seen Holmes twice this year and last and I've see Conner three times this year. Holmes does appear to have more weapons than last year on offense and when they do not shoot themselves in the foot they are improved, but Conner has improved a lot on defense especially in the secondary in the speed department. The secondary is their strength with 9 interceptions in the first three games attesting to that. Add another 5or 6 fumble recoveries, and you have a defence that has really stepped it up. Both sides of the ball have had few penalties for Conner and the offense has taken good care of the ball. I believe Conner will win this game if their offense continues to take care of the ball and their defense can kept up their big hits and force the 3-4 turnovers they have been forcing. If Conner can stop the run and force Holmes to throw a lot, I see it happening. Last week was the first step in regaining some respect and this week is even bigger. A home game for Conner after a big road win. It's a chance to go 1-0 in districts and gain some payback. Hey Cougars, is your defense for real? Answer yes to that this week and you get a big home win.

I couldn't tell you anything about last year's game, but if I were Conner I would run blitz and stack 8 guys near the line of scrimmage.

I don't think Holmes can throw the ball. They sure in the heck couldn't do anything against Holy Cross throwing the football and only seemed to run a screen pass or try to hit a receiver running long.

Conner probably will have a little revenge on their mind.

They have to be physical and wear Holmes down.

I watched the Holmes/HC game on TV and Holmes plays a lot of players both ways.

Should be a close game, because Conner has not been lighting up the scoreboard.

Thats what Conner did last year and Dj torched them for 200 yds rushing.

As far as forcing Holmes to pass? Idk about that. Holmes receivers are much more athletic and quick than the Conner DB's. IMO the key to Conner winning the game is stopping the run and being able to set up their pass defense.

Now I know that you haven't seen Conner . . . . . . . .

Their DB's are a little more "athletic" than you are giving them credit for.

You may want to do a little more research before you make statements that point towards the opposite of reality.

Like I said before--the Conner defense is much improved. I also think that it wouldn't take a genius to improve on last years game plan. I wouldn't count on the same mistakes twice . . . . . . . .

i think holmes well pull off the win by alot and both duran and covington will be the xfactors in the game so i have to say holmes 47 conner 12

Conner has certainly played better competition than Holmes to this point and that will help the Cougars. The lower the score, the better chance for Conner to win. It's hard for me to believe it will not be a pretty close game.

Holmes by 3.

Holmes by 3.

That 3 will not be by a field goal:rolleyes:

Not sure what the rolling eyes are for.

You're right, the 3 will not be by a FG.

Holmes is lucky to make their extra points. A FG would be miraculous.

I KNOW ;)

No, The Immaculate conception was miraculous. I think it would be bigger than that.

IMHO, this is among the hardest games in the state this weekend to predict accurately. I've gone back and forth and that is why I've waited until tonight to offer up my 2 cents.

Coaches -- edge to Conner

Athletes -- obviously, Holmes

Fundamentally sound, solid -- edge to Conner

Special teams -- edge to Conner

big play ability -- Holmes

home field -- Conner

composure -- Conner

speed -- Holmes

Two teams that are, in many ways, polar opposites; just tough to get a handle on.

I'll settle on Conner by 10+. I think the first half is close, Conner jumps up in the 2nd half, Holmes panics and tries "risky" plays resulting in digging a bigger hole. Something in the 24-14 area.

I have to agree with you on most points however, The only thing as far as special teams that would give Conner the edge would be A KICKER. As far as coaches go, I have to say even. Unless you have ever coached at Holmes you would not understand. Coach Trosper is a very good coach and knows the game WELL. Coaching at Holmes is a tough Gig. Now Holmes had a few penalties early on. But they have worked on this issue. They cut their penalties down against Pendelton. Now they have had 2 weeks to get these type of issues worked out and have time to fine tune the new offensive scheme. I like you, believe that this is a tough game to pick. If the Dawgs come out firing on all cylinders and ironed out their mistakes it could be a long night for the cougars. If they don't it could be a long night for the Dawgs.

My prediction: Dawgs 32 Cougars 14

I'm gonna pick the Dawgs in this one. They seem to be a better team than last year. If only that they are more disciplined from what I've seen. It should be a good game though. Conner is 2-1 with a much needed boost to their psychy last week from the win over Fern Creek. Both teams will be giving it all they have and not quiting so I think this one might get decided by a TD if Conner can hold DJ and company down defensively.

Coaches -- edge to Conner

Just curious, by why the edge in coaching to Conner?
