UFC 207: Nunes vs. Rousey

Featured Replies

Rousey lost her mental strength after the loss to Holm. Once you lose the mental edge in a sport like that you are done. She should have never came back.

Man, those yips you got in HS make you think no one can come back after losing the mental edge briefly. You, Nugent and now Rousey should all retire from sports.

Need to get into Yogi's line of thinking. "Baseball is 90% mental and the other half physical."

What Rousey has is not the Yips. Before she lost to Holm, her opponents went into the ring thinking Rousey was impossible to beat. She won the physchological fight before the fight. When Rousey came out talking about how depressed she was after the Holm fight and how she contemplated taking her own life, she will never have been able to gain that edge back. Her opponents see a weakness instead of an impenetrable force like she was viewed before. But if you want to bring me up I did have to "retire" from baseball after turning down some really small school offers. Haha but don't go around making fun of the yips it's some scary stuff man. What goes around comes around. Haha

Rousey should just go back to competing in judo. Learn to be humble. Drop the sour-face tough-girl act and just go back to the humble, respectful approach that is taught by most martial arts teachers.

Dana White blew this girl up into something she wasn't. Before she had done anything they were calling her the best pound for pound fighter in MMA. There was very little competition on the woman's side of it. But, she was pretty and for some reason I could never understand, guys wanted to watch her fight. Dana made a lot of money promoting her.

Better fighters have now exposed her.

A lot of people want to discredit what Ronda did because of the two losses. I don't. She was good and she beat the best women, at the time. Some of the women she destroyed have victories over Nunes.

Her problems, IMO, are coaching and mental toughness. She has not improved, even with a year off. Her stand up is terrible and her game plan was to. That's on her coaching. She's also not there mentally, clearly. She wanted to kill herself after one loss...

I don't think I can really agree with you. Rousey was completely dominant and earned the great reputation she had. You act like it's just because competition is better. Will Holm who Rousey lost to, right after that lost to Tate who Rousey beat easily multiple times.

Then last night Nunes dominated. Nunes when she last lost 4 fights ago, lost to the girl that Rousey beat in less than 30 seconds after that girl TKO Nunes. So it's not like Rousey was beating no talented girls. Those girls she beat have beaten the girls she just lost to.

Sometimes its about Match ups and the last 2 fights she has fought strong strikers and exposed Rouseys weakness. This second fight lost is on her coaches and honestly her for not changing coaches. I don't know if they thought the Holm fight was a fluke or what. However it looked like she changed nothing from the Holms lost.

I believe first as long as she wants to keep going that she can get back on top. However she will need new coaching and new technique to deal with these strikers. If she can learn better footwork and how to dodge and block punches, someone like Nunes would wear out fast with how many punches she throws if you don't allow her to land so many.

Rousey can get back to the top, she is just going to first have to want to and then make necessary changes.

Just watched the full fight between Cruz and Garbrandt and Garbrandt dominated Cruz. His quickness to avoid Cruz's awkward style and the precision of his punches were too much for Cruz. That was a butt whuppin'.

Rousey's best career move would be to retire from fighting and move to Hollywood and become a action star in the movies. She's not a bad actress and could be pretty successful with some more training in the field.

I believe the fight was fixed Rousey didn't put her hands up once to protect herself. It was like she wamted to be knocked out. Trained fighters first move is to always protect yourself. 3 million dive!

Just watched the Rousey fight (if you an call it that) on line. What has happened? She looked like she'd never been in a fight before, and as soon as she was hit the first time she looked like she didn't want to be in that one. That was just brutal and she looked woefully unprepared to me.

She just wanted the pay check and will never fight again.

I came across an interesting interview with Chael Sonnen on the Rhonda Rousey story and the hype that put her in the position she was in. Sonnen is in Rousey's corner but he said she was hyped up by the media. The women's division was just forming and she was the best thing available at the time. She was actually crowned UFC champ before competing for it. They hyped her before she had competed. The media put her ahead of Serena Williams among female athletes before she earned it.

It is just that they made her out to be better than some men. The media started saying she would beat Floyd Mayweather. Huh? It was all marketing and branding. She was really good but she wasn't great and was largely untested. Now we are seeing the competition catching up to her and surpassing her. That was my point in my previous post on her loss.
