Clyde Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 I always say I have hard enough time keeping up with being Catholic so I really have no idea what the practices of other religions are. A church in Georgia said they are not going to have service Sunday since it's also Christmas. Said it's a day to stay home with family. Zero chance that mentality would ever be in the Catholic church. So, what does your church/religion do for Christmas service? Do you have a service on Christmas Day regardless of day of the week?
Jumper_Dad Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 We have Family Communion tonight. Candlelight service Christmas Eve. Church service (no Sunday School) Christmas morning. When Christmas falls on a day other than Sunday we do not have a special service that day, our Christmas Eve service is our Christmas Service. I attend a United Methodist Church.
Jumper_Dad Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 I know of no local church that isn't having services, the largest Baptist Church is even having Baptisms Christmas morning.
MJAlltheWay24 Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 I currently do not belong to a church. But the idea of cancelling service on Sunday for Christmas seems absurd to me.
Randy Parker Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 The last time Christmas fell on a Sunday (2011) Southland Christian in Lexington, the second largest church in Kentucky & one of the largest in America, did not have services on Christmas Day. Their explanation was something along the lines of they were going to use that day to "be the church" or something like that. I respect the Southland Church & their minister Jon Weece, and I'm all for "being the church," but I thought both the decision & explanation were hogwash. I'm not sure what they're planning for 2016. The church I attend is an Independent Christian Church, like Southland, and we aren't changing anything. Most churches I know of aren't changing anything either, regardless of denomination.
Oldbird Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 We don't have church on Christmas Day (we do have a full slate of services Christmas Eve.). There was a time when we didn't have services the last 2 weeks of the year, but not so much anymore. December at our church is pretty busy. From December 1st through the 24th, we have a Christmas show, which takes a small army of volunteers to execute. In the end we are all pretty confident we haven't neglected celebrating the birth Christ or worshiping him in any way.
ThrillVille Cardinal51 Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 Sojourn in Louisville has three services at the Midtown campus(the main campus) on Christmas Eve. Our East end and the southern Indiana campus has a service on Christmas Day.
Watusi Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 We assemble and worship on the first day of the week. We had regular services today, and being Christmas day just made it that much more special. I can't imagine cancelling worship services because of Christmas. Seems contradictory to me.

Agreed, we did cut out Sunday school today however. Had nearly identical numbers this morning that we did for candlelight service last night. With driving rain and being Christmas morning I was afraid attendance would be down this morning but it wasn't.
Pura Vida Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 I “wish” there was an evening Mass on Christmas Day…., like say 5 or 6pm. (ok there probably is somewhere just need to find it). Travelling on Christmas Eve makes it impossible to go to Christmas Eve Mass. We arrive back home too late for Midnight Mass. Because of the late night….. nobody ever feels the Christmas joy getting up for the Christmas morning masses. lol
