December 19, 20169 yr It's not the praise of McCarron that bothers me. It's the pretense that Dalton is some sort of bum off the street when in reality he is an above average QB. He is not the reason they are losing games. He also isn't winning games with below average talent like Aaron Rodgers. But I don't think AJ McCarron is either. There are so many other problems with this team that the constant blame HB puts on Andy just seems like a cop out for the real problems. While they were all FG's but one, the Bengals D gave up seven scores today. That's a lot. Agreed of them in the second half, with one after an interception. When the Bengals offense only gets 38 total yards in the second half because of three and outs, it's going to allow a great steeler offense to get in a rhythm. Even then it took till 5 mins left to Crack 20. Meaning if the Bengals offense does anything, the steelers probably don't Crack 20. Say the Bengals offense did move the ball some, and even managed a field goal. The Bengals probably win the game 23 to 18, and people are talking about how good the defense played holding the steelers to 18. However since the offense sucked all second half, the steelers kept getting the ball back.

I think we can all agree on one thing... no matter what side of the Dalton argument you agree with... AJ McCarron will NEVER be the starting QB for the Cincinnati Bengals as long as Dalton is healthy... I'm a Dalton supporter for the most part, but even if I weren't... it's a waste of time to worry about it... He's still young, has a big contract and has been very durable so far as an NFL starting QB... Dalton will be the starting QB for at least 4 more seasons... probably more... So, McCarron is a waste of time discussion... AJ is on his way out of here, like it or not. I for one like AJ a lot and wish him luck on his next team unless they're playing the Bengals. Good point. Don't use garbage time as an excuse for one and ignore the garbage time for the other. How can you say he wasn't very good in the playoff game? The OC did what they did with him in every game with him, handcuff him and play ultra conservative until we were behind and then they let him go and what did he do in the playoff game? Came back from 17 pts down. He outplayed every playoff game dalton ever played in in just that one. I am not arguing about Dalton. He gave us a chance to win the playoff game last year but he didn't have a great game.

December 19, 20169 yr Let's also not forget... regardless of today's loss... AD and the defense have both done well enough all season to put the Bengals in playoff position yet again... But our kicker didn't do his job which to my count cost them 3 games... Washington, Baltimore and Buffalo... You get those 3 wins, you're still in the hunt.. That's the one positive today... the new kicker didn't cost them to the game... lol!

No one knows for sure on McCarron. However after 6 years we do know with Dalton. Beat the bad teams, lose to the good teams, especially the ones that are more pressure packed, or prime time games. McCarron has 4 starts. 2 of them came in prime time under the lights in big meaningful games. The first against the Broncos on the road against that great defense, and he came out and played very well. Then the playoff game, he mentally was able to overcome the elements and not having a great game, to make the plays when it mattered most at the end. He did this in only his 4th start. In 6 years, Dalton still struggles in those moments at end of games against good teams, especially in prime time. So considering it was only his 4th game, it did give a positive outlook on thinking on what he would be like if he was the full time starter and kept getting more experience. He could suck, or he could be the one who could get this team over the hump.

It's funny you and others keep saying he didn't have a great game etc. do you all realize his career qb rating is 97. Did you also realize in that playoff game he got the team the lead near the end of the game. Can't ask for more from your qb than to get you the lead. Dalton never could in a playoff game. So just as I said, he's only good against bad teams. So, basically what you are saying, is the only quarterback you would be happy with is a top 3/4 elite quarterback. Most quarterbacks have losing records against winning teams including Aaron Rodgers and Matt Ryan. In fact, Aaron Rogers is one of the worst clutch quarterbacks in the game and I know I would want him on my team.
December 19, 20169 yr Personally, I think you can rail on Dalton all you like. They played this game without AJ and that leaves Eifert your most valuable weapon frankly. He finished with 1 catch for 9 yards. I watched him multiple times and he simply failed to get much separation. Some of that was Shazier and the rest was poor spacing against a 2 deep zone. But you can't expect to win with him getting 1 catch in my opinion
December 19, 20169 yr I would much rather the Bengals get rid of Marvin Lewis than Andy Dalton. But only if they go outside the organization for Marvin's replacement. My biggest fear is the next head coach of the Bengals is Paul Alexander.
